The incident began on October 18 when a man called 911 pretending to be a distressed hiker, according to a Friday news release from the Monroe County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office. When first responders arrived at the scene in Tellico Plains, they found a dead man with identification belonging to Andrade, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators discovered that Nicholas Wayne Hamlett, 45, of Alabama had been using Andrade’s identification and that he was wanted in Alabama on a parole violation, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office advises anyone with information about the case to share it with them and to call 911 if they see Hamlett. CNN has reached out to the Monroe County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office for more information.

Floodwaters from Hurricane Helene trapped workers at an eastern Tennessee plastics factory, with several family members learning Monday that their loved ones didn't survive. More than 50 people were stranded Friday at an eastern Tennessee hospital due to fast-rising water and high winds, after several attempts to airlift them failed during a dangerous rescue operation, Ballad Health officials said. The high winds and water levels prevented helicopter crews from airlifting patients and staff from Unicoi County Hospital in Erwin, Tennessee, hospital officials said. “The situation at the hospital is very dangerous,” Ballad Health said on X, adding the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and National Guard were engaged “in what can only be described as a dangerous rescue operation.”Patients and staff members are evacuated from Unicoi County Hospital on Friday. County leaders in Unicoi initially deployed ambulances but unusually high flooding prevented medics from safely approaching, Ballad Health said. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency has been working with local emergency management agencies to deploy boats for hospital evacuations, but water surrounding and entering the building became dangerous and impassable.

CNN —Thousands of Florida residents have been forced to evacuate as the state prepares for rapidly strengthening Tropical Storm Helene, which could bring powerful winds, flooding and life-threatening storm surge to areas already hard-hit by recent hurricanes. The Big Bend area faces the most serious storm surge: up to 15 feet of it is possible. Over in Sanibel, one couple who met during Hurricane Ian in 2022 and nearly lost everything are now going to weather Tropical Storm Helene together, CNN affiliate WINK reported.
