Widely used materials, such as polyester and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), can take a long time to break down. From there, they partnered with a machine manufacturing company, Heilig Group, which helped bring their shoe recycling factory FastFeetGrinded to life. Those materials are then shredded into small pieces, before being separated out by type, and then refined into recycled materials ready for reuse. Making shoes from shoesA shoe made of fully recycled FastFeetGrinded material has yet to hit the market, but brands are making strides to reuse materials. FastFeetGrinded is the brand’s largest footwear recycling partner in Europe; it takes Asics factory floor rejects, as well as used shoes returned in stores.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have tied with three votes each in the tiny New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch, kicking off Election Day in one of the first places in the country to report its presidential preference. By tradition, all eligible voters gather at the now-dormant Balsams Hotel in Dixville Notch to cast their secret ballots once polls open at midnight. Once every ballot is cast, votes are tallied and results announced – hours before anywhere else, making it a destination for national reporters, who often outnumber the voters. In January, four registered Republican voters and two independents participated in the GOP primary, casting six unanimous votes for former South Carolina Gov. CNN’s Gary Tuchman, Eva McKend, Ethan Cohen, Molly English, Gregory Krieg and Eric Bradner contributed to this report.

Extreme weather warnings continue for portions of eastern and southern Spain, according to AEMET, with more rain expected. This week’s floods are the most deadly Spain has suffered in decades.

CNN —At least 51 people have died in flash floods in southeastern Spain, the regional government of Valencia said on Wednesday. Some locations in southern and eastern Spain received up to 12 inches of rain in just a few hours on Tuesday. The Valencia area averages 77 millimeters (3.03 inches) of rain for the entire month of October. Chiva, just east of Valencia, received 320 millimeters (12.6 inches) of rain in just over four hours, according to the European Severe Weather Database.
