Craig Melvin will replace Hoda Kotb after the beloved co-anchor announced in September that she was leaving “TODAY” after nearly two decades. Melvin, a news anchor of “TODAY” and a co-host of the 3rd hour of “TODAY,” made the announcement on the show Thursday morning. He will co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie for the 7 and 8 a.m. hours beginning Jan. 13. “You are the right person for it.”Kotb will remain as co-anchor until Jan. 10, calling it a "party day." Melvin went on to call Kotb and Guthrie his "sisters."

New York CNN —Craig Melvin will become the co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” show beginning early next year, following the departure of Hoda Kotb. Melvin is a familiar face to “Today” viewers, having been with the program in various roles for nearly 14 years. He is an “integral and beloved part of our family,” Libby Leist, senior vice president of Today, said in a statement. She also co-hosted the 10 am hour with Jenna Bush Hager. NBC announced said that the fourth hour will be renamed “Jenna & Friends” following Kotb’s departure until a permanent co-host is named.

CNN —Al Roker missed his first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 27 years as he recovers from a health scare. The famed “Today” meteorologist recently shared that he had been hospitalized after a blood clot in his leg traveled to his lungs. “After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery,” Roker wrote on his verified Instagram account. “Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon.”It kept Roker from his traditional co-hosting of the annual parade along with his “Today” colleagues Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb. NBC meteorologist Dylan Dreyer filled in for Roker at the event on Thursday and fielded a call from President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, who inquired about how Roker was doing.

Roker signed off with, “Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. “It’s hard to slow down Al but he’s on the mend and he’s on the way to recovery,” Guthrie added. “I don’t know if he watches this show but we love you, Al.
