CNN —Moose, a dog that was supposed to be on an outgoing Alaska Airlines flight Tuesday from Raleigh-Durham International Airport, has been reunited with its owner after a “misstep in the cargo loading process,” the airline said. “The dog was scheduled to fly on our flight Tuesday night with its owner, but due to a misstep in the cargo loading process, the dog did not make the trip. “He is safe and sound and had a good breakfast courtesy of one of our K9 officers,” the airport spokesperson said. Alaska Airlines apologized for the mishap and said it’s happy the dog and owner have been reunited. “We’re happy that the dog is safely back with its pet parent,” an Alaska Airlines spokesperson said.

"Due to a misstep in the loading process, the dog did not make the trip," an Alaska representative told the outlet. "When it was time to load it into the crate, it pulled away, shook loose from its collar and ran away," the Alaska Airlines representative said. The owner flew all the way back to Raleigh from Seattle to join the search for the dog on a flight paid for by Alaska Airlines, per WRAL.

On the busy day-after-Christmas travel day, Southwest Airlines canceled more than 2,700 flights, frustrating passengers across the country. Overall, around 3,900 flights were canceled within, into or out of the U.S. on Monday, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware. Southwest had 2,893 flights canceled at one point Monday, or 70% of its schedule, according to the site. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday combined, over 8,200 flights into, out of or within the U.S. were canceled, according to FlightAware. The death of a pilot who fell out of a twin-engine plane in North Carolina in July was an accident, according to his autopsy report. The autopsy said the plane then encountered turbulence and Crooks told the pilot he was not feeling well. Crooks declared an emergency and coordinated with air traffic controllers at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, according to the report. After Crooks fell from the plane, the commanding pilot alerted air traffic controllers and went searching for Crooks, the report says.
