“We strongly condemn these dehumanizing acts and demand respect and justice.”The Dominican Republic, which shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with Haiti, last week said it would deport up to 10,000 migrants per week who were in the country illegally, a sharp increase. So far this month, the Dominican Republic has deported more than 9,000 people, more than 7,000 of those since Thursday, the nation’s migration agency said in a statement on Monday. More than 4,900 of the total were Haitians, a Dominican official who declined to be named told Reuters. If the Dominican Republic follows through on its plan, the number deported in a year would rise sharply from more than 200,000 Haitians forcibly returned last year. In the United States, presidential candidate Donald Trump has also pledged mass deportations and has made false claims about Haitian migrants in the town of Springfield, Ohio.

Police said Wednesday that they charged Justin Mohn, 32, with first-degree murder and abusing a corpse after he beheaded his father, Michael, in their Bucks County home and publicized it in a 14-minute YouTube video that anyone, anywhere could see. YouTube, which is owned by Google, did not attend the hearing despite its status as one of the most popular platforms among teens. Major social media companies moderate content with the help of powerful automated systems, which can often catch prohibited content before a human can. Despite the obstacles, social media companies need to be more vigilant about regulating violent content, said Jacob Ware, a research fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. “The reality is that social media has become a front line in extremism and terrorism,” Ware said.

HONOLULU (AP) — A U.S. Navy plane overshot a runway and splashed into a bay in Hawaii on Monday, but authorities said all nine people aboard made it safely to shore with no injuries. The SEC is expected to vote on new rules for money-market funds Wednesday. Increase in liquidity requirements Most money market funds invest exclusively in cash or government securities. Some, known as "prime" money market funds, also invest in commercial paper. All are subject to liquidity requirements (some assets have to be readily convertible to cash), including levels of daily and weekly liquidity requirements. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), an industry trade group, wrote to the SEC, expressing "substantial concerns" about the liquidity requirements.

A visitor plugs a charger into an electric vehicle on display at the 44th Bangkok International Motor Show in Bangkok on March 22, 2023. Siam Motors is in talks with several Chinese automakers about potential partnerships, particularly for high-end electric vehicles, vice president Sebastien Dupuy said in an interview, referring to previously unreported discussions. Thailand is Southeast Asia's largest car producer and exporter, and its second-largest sales market after Indonesia. Japanese automakers are so dominant that for decades they have treated it almost as an extension of their home market. Thailand's transition offers a test case for other economies as Chinese automakers ramp up exports and build overseas production hubs, partly in response to a hypercompetitive home market for electric cars.
