“Breaking 234 years of precedent, the incumbent administration has charged President Trump for acts that lie not just within the ‘outer perimeter,’ but at the heart of his official responsibilities as President,” Trump’s lawyers wrote in the court filing.
Earlier this week, Trump’s lawyers reportedly motioned to dismiss charges related to hush money payments in a New York case, where they argued that the indictment was intended to interfere with the presidential election.
His lawyers also requested this week that his federal trial in Florida relating to the mishandling of classified documents be delayed until after the presidential election.
The most memorable and oft-quoted line of her opinion suggested she might take a dim view of Trump’s sweeping immunity claim.
The case seems likely to end up before the Supreme Court, which has a mixed track record on the issue.
