CNN —American players at next year’s Ryder Cup will be paid for the first time in the tournament’s history, the PGA of America announced Monday. Members of the US team will now receive $500,000 each, with $300,000 of that being directed to a charity of their choice. ‘Never really been about getting paid’The compensation around participating in the Ryder Cup has long been discussed by players. Woods said that players never wanted to be paid directly, but that more should be directed towards charities. “The Ryder Cup itself makes so much money – why can’t we allocate it to various charities?

Gen Z is ushering in the all-inclusive era

A survey included in the report found 42% of Gen Z respondents said an all-inclusive was their preferred hotel type, more than any other generation. AdvertisementWhy Gen Z loves all-inclusivesOnce guests book their stays at an all-inclusive, very little additional planning is required. Its $2.7 billion acquisition of Apple Leisure Group in 2021 made it the largest operator of luxury all-inclusive resorts worldwide. AdvertisementAnd Hilton said earlier this year their all-inclusive segment was a "catalyst for growth," noting its Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe All-Inclusive Resort that opened in 2023. For Gen Z in particular there may be an intangible benefit of all-inclusives that will continue to drive demand.

He's not doing all this out of the kindness of his heart; he's doing it because he wants the credit-card rewards. In a recent poll from Ipsos, 71% of Americans surveyed said they had some sort of rewards, points, or cash-back card, and 80% of those with such a card said they valued their rewards. But maybe we love our credit-card rewards too much, to the point that it's making us act in less-than-ideal ways toward those we hold near and dear. But credit-card rewards are, indeed, making things uncomfortable. I recently booked a fight with a friend who remarked she'd gotten some $300 in travel credit from her rewards card.

The saying is ubiquitous on wedding invitations, picture frames, and heart-shaped lockets: "Today, I marry my best friend." And I did marry mine, a wonderful man who became a close friend before anything else. Back then, I believed that best friends made the most compatible partners, and maybe that's true for some couples. During a recent girls' trip, my best friend's friendly ex-husband texted her a picture of his new baby. Ditto for another close friend who I've known since birth, who hangs out with both my ex and me when she visits from Philly.

The decision by Microsoft to link executive compensation to successful cybersecurity performance is another is prompting discussions at other firms. One change the tech giant is making in response: linking executive compensation more closely to cybersecurity. In recent years, many Fortune 500 companies, including Apple, have added bonus pay tied to ESG metrics. The conversations about cybersecurity-linked executive pay have started taking place at other companies since Microsoft made its move, according to Aalap Shah, managing director at executive compensation consultant Pearl Meyer. Madnick's research shows that gaps in corporate culture are often culprits in high-profile hacks, not just the Microsoft example.

Nikki Haley was the only major presidential candidate to appear on the state's GOP primary ballot. AdvertisementDespite being the only currently running major candidate on the official state-run Republican presidential primary in Nevada, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley lost to the option "None of These Candidates." Importantly, if a candidate chooses to be apart of the state-run primary, the Nevada GOP said they will not be permitted to also caucus on February 8. For reasons not entirely clear, Haley signed up to be a part of the state-run primary in 2023, even though she could not win any delegates from it. As former President Donald Trump, the leading GOP candidate in the race, is signed up for caucus, Haley was the only major candidate on the Nevada primary's ballot.

As a result, there will be a Republican primary and caucus on differing days. Haley will appear on the primary ballot, whereas Trump will be on the caucus one. The Nevada Republican Party has also decided that candidates who sign up for the state-run primary will not be allowed to caucus on February 8. Trump will be the sole name on the caucus ballot on February 8, which means his campaign will win all of the state's 26 delegates. After Nevada, the next state primary is South Carolina, where Haley grew up, attended college, and served as governor.

On Tuesday, the company released a new set of tools help designed to manage Nvidia chips, which dominate the market for AI systems that can read and write text in human-like ways. But some VMware customers want to do that work in their own data centers when the data is sensitive. TPG dangles messy end for EY’s loveless marriage

On Monday, the Financial Times reported that private equity firm TPG (TPG.O) had approached EY about buying a stake in its consulting arm. Back in May of last year when EY’s split was leaked to the press, valuations were much more attractive. If TPG pushes for a full breakup, EY would still have to work out how to divvy up its tax advice business between audit and consulting. Given the challenges, EY may well decide it’s better to soldier on with an awkward marriage than risk a messy divorce. The $42 billion in federal funding under the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program is based on a newly released Federal Communications Commission coverage map that details gaps in access. Texas and California - the two most populous U.S. states - top the funding list at $3.1 billion and $1.9 billion, respectively. But other less populous states like Virginia, Alabama and Louisiana cracked the top 10 list for funding due to lack of broadband access. The administration estimates there are some 8.5 million locations in the U.S. that lack access to broadband connections. The lack of broadband access drew attention during COVID shutdowns that forced students into online schooling.

Eighty-two percent of American adults had a credit card in 2022, according to the U.S. Federal Reserve. Benefits to having more than one credit cardHowever, there can be drawbacks to having just one credit card. In addition, having a second credit card, or more, can help build a person's credit utilization ratio, said Curtis, founder and CEO of Curtis Financial Planning. Having more than one card raises one's overall credit limit, and with responsible use, can reduce one's credit utilization ratio.

Chicago's cycling community has exploded in recent years, and the city plans to add 150 more miles of lanes to accommodate this growth. The new, ambitious Chicago Cycling Strategy from the Chicago Department of Transportation, worth over $17 million, includes expanding Chicago's bike network by designing and implementing 150 miles of low-stress bikeways over the next several years. If you have friends that ride, ride together, if you have family members that are willing to ride, especially older ones, ride with them. Earlier in the pandemic, Chicago launched a program to give away 5,000 bikes to eligible Chicago residents by 2026. Similar views have also been championed by many progressive evangelicals, mainline Protestants and leaders in the Black church. Yet no major political party embodies this consistent ethic of life. To embrace and articulate a consistent ethic of life, even while inhabiting the existing political parties, helps create the space necessary to expand the moral imagination of both parties.
