CLEVELAND — The joy of watching Juan Soto is that he shows you how much he loves baseball. “Soto don’t swing at balls, man,” said Marcus Stroman, who watched from the visiting bullpen Saturday as Soto caught his biggest prize as a Yankee: the American League pennant. Soto paused as he romped near the Yankees’ dugout, flexing and roaring as his teammates tumbled over the railing. Soto turned five years old the day the Yankees’ next series ended in defeat to the Florida Marlins. MILWAUKEE — Pete Alonso hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off closer Devin Williams in the ninth inning and the New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 on Thursday night to win their NL Wild Card Series. With their latest thrilling comeback in the decisive Game 3 against Milwaukee, the Mets advanced in the playoffs for the first time since winning the 2015 National League pennant. New York went 6-7 against the Phillies during the regular season and finished six games behind them in the division standings. CNN —Pete Alonso hammered a historic, go-ahead, three-run home run in the ninth inning to power the New York Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in their winner-take-all Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series. With free agency looming, it could have been the final act of his Mets career – but the possible last dance continues. Benny Sieu/USA Today Sports/ReutersAfter the Mets came from behind to win 8-4 in Game 1, the Brewers leveled the series with a 5-3 victory Wednesday. The stunning victory over the Brewers marks the first time that the team has advanced in the postseason since 2015. “There was no way this season was going to end without something happening in that ninth inning,” he added.

September 28 - Tyrone Taylor doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a 3-2 victory over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. The Cardinals loaded the bases in the eighth against Andrew Chafin, who relieved Joel Payamps to start the inning. Contreras doubled to open the inning and Taylor followed with an RBI double, continuing to third on a throwing error by leftfielder Richie Palacios. The Cardinals loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but Brewers starter Wade Miley avoided a big inning, allowing just one run. Nootbaar singled on a dribbler to short, Herrera singled to center, and Juniel Querecuto reached on a bunt to load the bases.

The Brewers have reached the playoffs five of the last six years, the exception coming last season. There’s a sense of urgency associated with this playoff berth because of the long-term uncertainty surrounding some key figures. The Brewers were one win away from the World Series in 2018 when they lost a Game 7 at home to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but they haven’t won a postseason series since. Although Milwaukee owns a combined 2-10 record against the Atlanta Braves and Dodgers — the NL’s top two playoff seeds — the Brewers’ pitching gives them reason for optimism. The Brewers have lost seven of their last eight postseason games, a stretch that started with that Game 7 defeat in 2018.

He didn’t care that it was a no-hitter. He just wanted the Yankees to win. After two innings, I texted a Brewers fan to say I was worried the Yankees would be no-hit.
