After Republican President-elect Donald Trump’s dramatic performance with Latino voters, a coalition of Democratic-leaning Latino groups is grappling with the shift and trying to reconcile it with the policies they say many Hispanics support. Along with UnidosUS, Latino-focused advocacy groups such as Voto Latino, Somos Votantes, Hispanic Federation and La Brega y Fuerza Fund sponsored a poll of Latino voters. The coalition rejected national exit poll findings showing that Trump won the majority of Latino men — 55% — to Harris’ 43%. Edison Research, which conducts national exit polling for NBC News and other news organizations, surveyed 2,750 Latino voters nationally. Thirty-seven percent of male participants in exit polling identified as white, while 6% identified as Latino in the Latino groups’ poll.

Seoul, South Korea CNN —A South Korean research group has released rare footage that it claims shows North Korean teenagers sentenced to hard labor for watching and distributing K-dramas – which are banned in the hermit nation. SAND INSTITUTE NEWSLETTER/ReutersThe Seoul-based South and North Development Institute (SAND Institute), which works with North Korean defectors, obtained the recording and distributed it to media outlets. Meanwhile, living standards are far higher in South Korea, which has become one of world’s top economies. “You can see how wary the North Korean regime is about spreading and watching Korean dramas. For instance, South Korean women often use the term “oppa” for their romantic partners – it’s now forbidden in the North.

MANAUS, Brazil (AP) — Communities dependent on the Amazon rainforest's waterways are stranded without supply of fuel, food or filtered water. These are just the first grim visions of extreme drought sweeping across Brazil’s Amazon. Raimundo Silva do Carmo, 67, makes his living as a fisherman, but these days has been struggling to simply find water. Like most rural residents in Brazil's Amazon, do Carmo typically retrieves water untreated from the biome's abundant waterways. The drought has affected most of the main rivers in the Amazon, the world’s largest basin, which accounts for 20% of the planet’s fresh water.

Seoul/Hong Kong CNN —When Hwang Ji-sun, 52, first joined the assembly line at South Korean carmaker Hyundai 22 years ago, women like her had it tough. A wider problemDespite the incremental improvements, South Korea still has widespread problems of gender-based exclusion and low pay, researchers say. Gita Gopinath, first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has proposed South Korea adopt new measures to help keep women in the workforce. Making childcare more affordable, lowering the number of working hours or allowing more flexible arrangements is key, she told a South Korean forum last September. In a culturally conservative society like South Korea, much more needs to be done to change perceptions about women in male-dominated professions, according to Hwang.

SEOUL, Aug 10 (Reuters) - A South Korean government think-tank revised its annual inflation projection upwards on Thursday, citing the recent rise in energy prices, although it said the need for interest rate hikes has lessened. The forecast compares with the government and the central bank's inflation estimates of 3.3% and 3.5%, respectively. "While the economic sluggishness eased and the labour market continued a solid trend, a slowdown in inflation reduced the need for interest rate hikes," the KDI said in a statement. On growth, KDI kept its forecast unchanged at 1.5% for this year, higher than the government and the central bank's 1.4%. Risk factors to its growth forecast include sluggish growth in China, continued monetary tightening in major economies on higher inflation, and weaker domestic demand on smaller fiscal spending due to limited tax revenues, the KDI added.

"Toyota's production site in St Petersburg has... been transferred to the state," Russia's Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement. The company said in September it had decided to stop vehicle production in Russia due to the interruption in supplies of key materials and parts. "Toyota confirms that it has concluded the transfer of its vehicle production plant to NAMI effective from March 31, 2023," Toyota said in a statement. Neither party disclosed a fee for the transaction, and Toyota declined to give any further details of the deal. NAMI, Russia's Central Automobile and Engine Research and Development Institute, has already taken plants from Renault and Nissan.
The Treasury said Banga will visit New Delhi on March 23 and 24, where his likeness has already been posted on billboards. "These discussions will focus on India’s development priorities, the World Bank, and global economic development challenges," the Treasury said in a statement. The World Bank will accept nominations from other countries until March 29, but no competitors have been announced. The World Bank has been led by an American since its founding at the end of World War Two, while the International Monetary Fund has been led by a European. In India, Banga will also visit a vocational skills development institute funded in part by the World Bank, the Treasury said.
MOSCOW, March 16 (Reuters) - Japanese car maker Toyota's (7203.T) St Petersburg plant may be transferred to the Russian state entity NAMI, Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said on Thursday, according to the state-run TASS news agency. "The transfer of Toyota's Russian asets to NAMI is being considered," Manturov was quoted as saying on the sidelines of a business congress. A spokesperson for Toyota said on Friday it was considering what to do regarding the plant, after having already decided last year to end vehicle production in Russia after suspending production in St Petersburg last March. "While it's true that we're considering various options, nothing has been decided at this point," the spokesperson said. Toyota said in September it had decided to stop vehicle production in Russia due to the interruption in supplies of key materials and parts.

SEOUL, Nov 10 (Reuters) - South Korea's monetary tightening should be done at a gradual pace because of the risks of an economic contraction, the top government research agency said, as it downgraded GDP growth forecasts. "Monetary policy needs to maintain the tightening policy stance for the time being to keep inflation expectations stable, but its rate hike pace should also consider the possibility of an economic slowdown," said the Korea Development Institute (KDI) in its biannual economic outlook report released on Thursday. The state-run think tank said interest rates need to be raised at a gradual pace, given the risks of the economy shrinking sharply, adding that conditions in South Korea do not require rate hikes as steep as those in the United Sates and eurozone. Growth forecast for this year was also lowered slightly to 2.7% from 2.8% previously, while annual consumer inflation projections were raised to 5.1% and 3.2% for 2022 and 2023, from 4.2% and 2.2%, respectively. At Chile wine gala, climate change and water use in focus
  + stars: | 2022-11-07 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
SANTIAGO, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Chile's vintners are increasingly thinking about how to adapt to shifts in climate and drier weather that has seen the Andean country gripped by drought for over a decade. "It's something that worries all of us vineyards," said Magdalena Villasante from Vina Undurraga, which won the event's top award for its Syrah Carignan Grenache blend. Chile is the world's fourth-largest wine exporter, but dry weather has pushed vineyards to shift. Land for wine growing dropped some 4% in the five years until 2020, with the central Santiago Metropolitan Region, the country's third-largest wine producing region, seeing a decline of nearly 14%, official data show. "We'll probably see more wines from Aysen and Magallanes (in Chile's deep south) in the future what with climate change," Rojas told Reuters.

How West can mobilise trillions to help save Earth

LONDON, Oct 10 (Reuters Breakingviews) - War, inflation, debt, hunger, energy security and fear of recession will dominate the discussions at the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund this week. America and a group of other countries have given the World Bank until December to come up with a plan. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com RegisterThe West has self-interested reasons to mobilise trillions of dollars to help the poorer nations of the so-called Global South transition from fossil fuels. But getting this money to flow to the Global South is tough because investors don’t think the returns on offer justify the risks. It is therefore encouraging that America and other leading shareholders have given the World Bank its marching orders and that Malpass has responded positively.
However, the longer menstrual cycle, typically about a month long, didn't necessarily increase the number of days of bleeding, according to NIH. A change in menstrual cycle length of eight days or less is considered within the normal range of variation, according to NIH. Women who received both vaccine doses in a single menstrual period saw their cycle increase by 3.91 days. The changes in menstrual cycle length did not differ between vaccines. The researchers had released preliminary findings in January suggesting an association between Covid vaccination and increased menstrual cycle length, but the study published this week confirmed the link.
