Former President Donald Trump's campaign spent the final Sunday of the 2024 election on all-too-familiar turf: responding to the reaction to the candidate. Just hours earlier, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, made a very traditional — and politically safe — appearance on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." Trump campaign aides did not respond to a request for comment. Rob Godfrey, a South Carolina-based Republican strategist, said Trump has handed Harris gifts by playing into her strategy. Last week, Democrats had to perform clean-up duty on a surrogate who has largely been absent from her campaign: President Joe Biden appeared to say Trump's supporters are "garbage."

In NBC News’ early October national survey, just 4% of registered voters said they didn’t want to make a choice between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. One said they plan to vote for Trump, another that they are likely to vote for Harris, and another plans to not vote at all. How anyone could still be undecided a week out from a critical election can be difficult to fathom for supporters of either Trump or Harris. Eric Bush, a systems administrator from Florida, said he’s waiting until he is in the voting booth to make his final choice. But he is still weighing backing Harris, acknowledging a vote for Harris could lead to bigger-government policies that could help others.

The Indianapolis Colts are benching quarterback Anthony Richardson in favor of veteran Joe Flacco, sources told ESPN. Richardson, 22, was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Flacco, 39, has started two games for the Colts, who are 1-1 in those contests and 4-4 overall. In four appearances this season, Flacco has completed 65.7% of his passes for 716 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. Despite their struggles at the quarterback position, the Colts remain in the hunt for a playoff spot in the AFC.

The Cleveland Browns pulled off a massive upset Sunday, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 29-24 behind a stellar performance from quarterback Jameis Winston. The Browns entered Week 8 with a 1-6 record, with quarterback Deshaun Watson last in the league in quarterback rating. And he responded by outdueling Ravens quarterback and MVP candidate Lamar Jackson, who had led his team to five straight wins before Sunday. Since he joined Cleveland in 2022, Watson has never thrown for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in the same game. The Browns improved to 2-6 with the victory, their first since they beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 18-13 in Week 2.

They are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL after overcoming their recent rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, on Sunday. All-in-all, after seven weeks of the NFL season, the AFC is heating up with multiple potential superpowers really kicking into gear. And things went from bad to worse on Sunday when starting quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury. Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was carted off the field with an Achilles injury during the second quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was running a quarterback draw when his right leg appeared to buckle and he hit the ground. He entered Sunday ranked 31st and last among all QBs in quarterback rating. Entering Sunday, the Browns’ passing offense was last in yards per game, yards per attempt and had suffered more sacks than any other team. Even if the Browns were to release Watson after this season, they would still owe him $92 million.

The Buffalo Bills have acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a third-round pick, the teams announced Tuesday. The Browns will also receive a seventh-round pick in 2026, while the Bills acquire a sixth-round pick in 2025 in addition to Cooper. In six games so far this season, Cooper has 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Two of Buffalo’s top four players in receiving yards are a tight end and a running back. In 146 career games, Cooper has 9,736 yards and 62 touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns fell to 1-4 with a loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday after yet another dispiriting performance by quarterback Deshaun Watson. After five games, Watson has thrown for only five touchdowns while tossing three interceptions. It has been a downward trend for Watson ever since he began playing for the Browns toward the end of the 2022 season. Even Watson’s former backup Flacco — who threw more touchdown passes than Watson in fewer games with the Browns last year — is playing better. After Sunday’s loss, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski stood by Watson.

Nguyen: With Aaron Rodgers’ age and their defense, the Jets have a small window to make some noise. In theory, Adams would also add some much-needed explosiveness to a Jets offense that entered this week ranked 29th in the NFL in total yards and 27th in points. The Bills’ defense also suffered losses in free agency, and holes went unfilled even though Buffalo’s top competitors in the AFC include elite offenses in Kansas City, Baltimore and Cincinnati. Watson isn’t just not playing well, he’s playing like one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. Maybe improved offensive production would help ease pressure on the Browns’ defense.

That allowed the Chiefs to stay within a field goal — as did Cincinnati’s offensive struggles. After a Mahomes interception, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was strip-sacked, and the fumble was recovered for a score on the next possession. Is the Saints’ offense really this good? The Saints scored touchdowns on five straight possessions to open the game, sandwiching long drives around explosive plays.

CLEVELAND — Deshaun Watson has been accused of sexual assault in a new civil lawsuit brought by a woman who alleges the Cleveland Browns quarterback forced himself on her four years ago when he played with Houston. According to the lawsuit filed Monday in Harris County, the woman is suing Watson for $1 million in damages. The woman, identified only as Jane Doe in the court documents, said the incident took place after she invited Watson to her apartment. The 28-year-old Watson served an 11-game NFL suspension in 2022 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, stemming from those accusations. Watson has been limited to just 13 starts due to the suspension and a shoulder injury that required surgery last season.

CNN —Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been accused of sexual assault and battery which allegedly occurred in 2020, according to a civil lawsuit filed Monday by a woman in Harris County, Texas. In the lawsuit obtained by CNN, a woman identified as “Jane Doe” claims that Watson sexually assaulted her in her apartment before a dinner date in October 2020. According to the lawsuit, Watson – who was playing for the Houston Texans at the time – had become angry when he initially couldn’t find the woman’s apartment, yelling at her on the phone. According to the filing, the woman, Jane Doe, said she was terrified. Jane Doe is seeking compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $1 million, the lawsuit states.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Christian McCaffrey ran away with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award announced at NFL Honors on Thursday night. Myles Garrett beat out T.J. Watt for AP Defensive Player of the Year. First-place votes are worth five points, second-place votes are three and third-place votes are one. Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. won the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award, outgaining both Jalen Carter and Kobie Turner by two first-place votes. Anderson and Stroud are the fourth teammates to win the offensive and defensive rookie awards in the same season.
