A Delta flight attendant slashed a co-worker and hotel security guard after a late night and early morning of heavy, “blacked out” drinking, officials said Wednesday. Smith and “several other coworkers were returning to their” riverfront hotel when he started bickering with the victim, New Orleans police said in a statement. While Smith was booked for attempted murder, defense lawyer Thomas Calogero said his client shouldn’t be charged with that alleged crime once the case reaches prosecutors. Calogero said he highly doubts his client will ever be able to work as a flight attendant again. I mean I’m sure he’s going to lose his job at Delta,” the lawyer said.

CNN —A stowaway evaded multiple airport security checkpoints and flew aboard a Delta Airlines flight from New York to Paris Tuesday evening, authorities said – a shocking breach that raised serious alarm over airport security. Passengers weren’t alerted to the stowaway on Delta flight 264 from New York’s JFK International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport until the plane landed in Paris, said Rob Jackson, who was a passenger on the flight. “Apparently, she hid in a lavatory all the way at the rear of the aircraft when we departed JFK,” Jackson told CNN. She has a Russian passport and will soon be sent back to the United States, according to an airport official in Paris. “Nothing is of greater importance than matters of safety and security,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.

However, weather-related events like Hurricane Helene are generally considered to be outside an airline’s control, meaning passengers have relatively few rights to compensation, experts said. Airlines make concessions in some casesSome airlines are making concessions tied to Hurricane Helene, though they vary by carrier and geography. For example, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines have alerts about flooding in the Southeast. American Airlines is also giving leeway to passengers scheduled to travel through Augusta, Georgia, between Sept. 29 and Oct. 4. Plus, policies bought after Helene became a named storm generally won’t cover claims related to it.

New York CNN —Southwest Airlines’ substantial changes to its business and boarding process are coming – but not for a while. Southwest announced in July it would move away from the open seating model it has been known for throughout its 53-year history. It also announced it would offer premium seating for the first time. Part of the reason Southwest isn’t rolling out its assigned seating model sooner is that premium seating will take some time to reconfigure in the planes. It did not give details for when the premium seating with more legroom between seats would be available.
