CNN —Arsenal kept its title hopes alive with a vital 3-1 win against Liverpool in the English Premier League on Sunday. It was a goal that helped settle any nerves Arsenal had before the game and Arteta’s side began dominating the first half. Wild celebrationsThe Emirates erupted as Trossard’s shot squirmed into the net, with Arteta leading the party from the touchline. Arsenal, though, won’t mind the criticism given the team is now back in the hunt for its first league title since 2004. But Arteta was solely focused on his team’s ambitions after the game, telling reporters his side had learned lessons after failing to win the league last season.

CNN —Eduard Bello’s audacious bicycle kick earned Venezuela a shock draw against Brazil in World Cup qualifying, ending the Seleção’s remarkable home winning streak. Brazil hadn’t failed to win a home World Cup qualifier since drawing 2-2 against Uruguay in March 2016, but Bello’s stunning strike with just five minutes remaining earned Venezuela a famous point. Argentina and Peru have only managed a draw each, while Ecuador and Chile have lost every World Cup qualifier they have played in Brazil. The Seleção has still never lost a home World Cup qualifier, in what must be one of the most impressive records in all of sport. However, the draw drops Brazil into second place behind Argentina after the Albiceleste maintained its 100% record so far with a 1-0 win over Paraguay.

Feb 12 (Reuters) - Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions that went against Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion in Saturday's Premier League matches were down to "human error", the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) said on Sunday. Across London, Brighton & Hove Albion saw their quest for European football hit a speed bump at Crystal Palace when they were held to a 1-1 draw but Pervis Estupinan's goal was wrongly chalked off for offside. "PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday," it said on Sunday. "Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of offside situations, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL." Webb, a former Premier League referee, became the Chief Refereeing Officer at the PGMOL this season.

LONDON, Nov 6 (Reuters) - A 63rd-minute toe-poke on the goal line from Brazilian defender Gabriel earned Arsenal a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and lifted them back to the top of the Premier League. Gabriel, lurking at the far post, got on the end of a Bukayo Saka corner that flew past a line of Chelsea defenders. Arsenal, pressing hard and moving the ball at pace, had the better of a highly-charged London derby but were profligate in front of goal, with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White missing chances against Graham Potter's side. Chelsea's best efforts came on the counter-attack but they could produce only half-chances for Kai Havertz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling. A second-half goal by Brazilian defender Gabriel earned Mikel Arteta's side their 11th win in 13 league games and they have now beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea. Gabriel's 63rd minute toe-poke by Gabriel was enough to lift Arsenal to 34 points from 13 games. "We're not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end Arsenal deserved to win because they were the better team overall," Potter said. But despite constant pressure they could not equalise as Liverpool held on for their first away league win of the season. Tottenham are in fourth place with 26 points from 14 games while Liverpool rose to eighth with 19 points.
