I recently stayed at The Inn at St. John, a historic hotel in Portland, Maine. We stayed at the inn during one of the busiest Portland weekends, making the cost higher. Described on the hotel's website as a charming Victorian-era inn, The Inn at St. John was established by railroad tycoon John Deering in 1897, toward the end of the Gilded Age. Now, the hotel claims the title of being the oldest continually operating hotel in Portland. Here's what it was like to stay at The Inn at St. John in Portland, Maine.

Read previewFormer Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Chris Deering has a blunt message for recently laid-off game developers: They should "go to the beach for a year" or "drive an Uber" until the job market improves. "You're going to have to figure out how to get through it, drive an Uber, or whatever. His remarks come at a time when layoffs have hit the gaming industry hard. AdvertisementOther game developers, including Microsoft and Unity, have similarly downsized their studios this year, cutting over 3,000 jobs at the start of the year, BI reported in February. This series of layoffs in the game industry stemmed from slumping game sales and a shrinking gaming demographic, BI previously reported.

Notably, none of the schools agreed to fully divest from companies doing business in Israel, a demand student protesters have commonly rallied for across the country. Rutgers agreed to meet with student protesters to discuss divestment and to support scholarships for at least 10 displaced Gazan students. A deal struck by Northwestern University officials and pro-Palestinian demonstrators brought an end to a protest encampment on campus but drew harsh criticism from Jewish leaders and students on Wednesday. The agreement, announced this week, included a promise by the university to be more transparent about its financial holdings. In turn, demonstrators removed the tent camp they built last week at Deering Meadow, a stretch of lawn on campus. The university did not commit to divesting from companies linked to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, a chief demand animating campus protests across the nation. But protest organizers at Northwestern said they saw transparency as a first step toward that goal.
