He’s a Palestinian now.” The remark presumably meant to suggest that Schumer, who is Jewish, is somehow not supportive enough of Israel. Supporters hold up signs at former President Donald Trump's campaign rally in Virginia on June 28, 2024, one day after his historic debate against President Joe Biden. Some correctly noted that Trump revealed his view that Black Americans are relegated to working in low-paying, menial jobs that anyone could fill. Rep. James Clyburn, a Democrat from South Carolina, speaking Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, noted that Trump’s “Black jobs” remark shows that Trump has “a low opinion of Black people.” But that’s nothing new, Clyburn added. The only question is whether enough Americans will reject Trump’s vileness to ensure that he never gets there again.

Trump first asked the audience if they had ever heard of Dana White, the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). From there, Trump boasted that he had told White: “Why don’t you set up a migrant league of fighters and have your regular league of fighters. Obviously, Trump’s point in his migrant UFC proposal was that despite the toughness of the professional UFC fighters, the migrants coming to America are actually stronger, tougher and more dangerous. That moment came when Trump told the audience that the UFC president didn’t like the migrant fight league idea, adding, “But actually, it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever had.”Trump is telling the truth there: Musing about a migrant fighting league is vile — but it’s not his worst idea. Trump proposing a dehumanizing physical battle between migrants who would then fight the UFC champions — which conjures up Roman gladiator matches — is simply more evidence of Trump’s depravity.

The article also cited an organization that is preemptively hiring a new auditor in case Trump were to direct the Internal Revenue Service to target the group during a second term. Trump is telling anyone who will listen what his dark goals are for a second term — from mass deportations to the construction of expansive detention camps for migrants to expanding his presidential power. Even the strategy detailed in Sunday’s New York Times article, which included using the courts to slow down a second-term Trump agenda, is far less likely to be successful this time. One reason for this is that in his first term, Trump was able to confirm more than 200 federal judges including three US Supreme Court justices that he personally appointed. That is why second-term resistance strategies only divert resources from the more pressing imperative at hand: keeping Trump from winning a second term.

CNN —Hugely popular US television shows like “Shark Tank,” “Survivor” and even “American Idol” are based on hit programs from foreign countries. What better way to shake things up — and spark public interest — than having Biden and Trump spend a weekend together with TV cameras capturing almost every move? That means there’s a possibility that Trump could be sentenced to prison or home confinement for an extended period of time. If that were to happen, the show would be a no-go — unless Biden were to agree to spend the weekend filming in Mar-A-Lago, if Trump should get sentenced to house arrest. If the former president were to get hard time, Biden would have to be game to spend a weekend in Trump’s prison block.

Adding to the concerns about supporters inciting or committing violence to avenge Trump are comments from Trump’s allies since the verdict. Will Trump’s smears of the verdict and his “breaking point” language escalate those threats and even potentially lead to violence from Trump’s supporters? One of Trump’s supporters who vowed to “not tolerate” the Mar-a-Lago search attacked an FBI field office, resulting in his death. Will Trump encourage protests outside of the New York courthouse on July 11, when he’s scheduled to be sentenced? But one thing is certain: Trump now understands he is no longer Teflon and that he could end up in prison.

Dean Obeidallah CNNIt’s not the first time Trump has kicked off an event by playing this song that celebrates the January 6, 2021, attackers. But that wasn’t even the most offensive thing Trump did at Saturday’s private luncheon for donors, which was held at his Mar-a-Lago club. It was Trump, after all, who has said that he would be a dictator on “day one” of his administration. And the fact is, there is one major party presidential candidate who repeatedly has invoked Nazi language — and it’s not Biden. In December, Trump caused a firestorm when he parroted language used by Hitler by describing migrants as “poisoning the blood” of the United States.

Not surprisingly, the report about Noem killing the dog has led to a furor in the media and on the internet. That, however, apparently was not how Noem viewed Cricket, writing in the book that she “hated” the rambunctious puppy. That, Noem wrote, was the last straw. Of course, President Joe Biden also has a pet dog — although Commander has not been the best-behaved dog at times. Opinion: Mike Pence’s bombshell announcement

CNN —Former Vice President Mike Pence’s announcement last week that he would not endorse Donald Trump for president in 2024 was truly a bombshell. However, the reasons Pence offered for his decision were little more than a bland litany of policy issues. And when Trump heard that his supporters were chanting “Hang Mike Pence,” the then-president responded that his vice president “deserves it,” a former White House aide testified. Pence already has the perfect message for past and present Trump supporters, as well as anyone undecided about Trump. And anyone who asks someone else to put them over the Constitution should never be president of the United States again.” Amen.

Even among the cast members of “SNL,” we didn’t see any public outrage or protest over Gillis hosting. If you don’t like a comedian’s material, don’t attend their shows. In the case of Gillis, despite what he said with the joke in his opening monologue on “SNL,” he might actually want you to Google his name. Johnson’s Trump began delivering laughs by answering questions from random South Carolina voters, including one that asked “Trump” what made him think he could defeat President Joe Biden. Haley then raised the issue of Trump’s mental fitness, asking, “Are you doing OK, Donald? Then there is Haley’s demand that Trump debate her, a matter which in my view is not unrelated to the issue of Trump’s mental acuity. Trump’s refusal to debate during the GOP primaries so far has deprived the nation that opportunity. It’s a far lesser transgression, but Trump’s refusal to debate Haley should be viewed by all Americans through that prism.

CNN —The Donald Trump vice presidential reality selection show is heating up, with pundits laying out lists of possible people Trump might choose. They range from South Carolina GOP Sen. Tim Scott, to Ohio Sen. JD Vance, to even former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Trump won’t select a running mate who will help expand his voting base, as he did in 2016 when he named then-Indiana Gov. Pablo Martinez Monsivais/APWith those type of schemes, Trump needs a vice president who will not push back like Pence did. And after Trump won that election, many — including myself — believed that if only Stewart had not abdicated his late-night show in August 2015, Trump might well have been defeated. On a serious note, I don’t actually believe my 2016 article had anything to do with Stewart returning. And if history is any guide, Stewart will get under Trump’s pathetically thin skin, surely causing him to lash out on social media. Just one example came shortly before Trump announced his 2016 run, when Stewart discussed the other GOP presidential candidates. For a comedian, having a person like Trump respond angrily on social media to your jokes is better than a standing ovation.

First, he believes going after the signature achievement of President Obama plays well with his base. But there’s another, deeply unsettling possible motive: A racial component may be at play in Trump’s attacks on the legacy of the first Black president. Trump sought to undermine President Obama starting with his 2011 racist and false “birther campaign” seeking to cast Obama as an illegitimate president. And of course, it’s hard to forget the 2011 White House Correspondents Association Dinner, where Obama comically embarrassed Trump. After all, he had four years in the White House to do that.

Even before Seldowitiz was charged, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine said on social media: “This Islamophobic bigotry is absolutely reprehensible. Despite the concerning top-line numbers, the Times/Siena College polls do offer some hope and a road map to Biden’s victory. The other issue Biden wins more trust than Trump on is the handling of “democracy,” according to the new polls. Biden made democracy a key issue in the closing weeks of the 2022 midterms. For those who want Biden to win in 2024, you can’t ignore the polls but shouldn’t be panicked by them. The Biden campaign needs to do its part in terms of campaigning on the key issues and building an effective ground game.

But the case that may pose the greatest threat to Trump’s candidacy in 2024 is not one of his criminal cases. We are confident the rule of law will prevail, and this decision will be reversed — whether at the Colorado Supreme Court, or at the US Supreme Court,” a Trump campaign spokesperson said. But the Colorado case could be the one that makes it to our nation’s highest court. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was intended to keep former Confederates from holding office after the war. The state’s Supreme Court rejected Griffin’s final appeal to overturn the decision earlier this year.

CNN —President Joe Biden traveled to Florida on Saturday to survey the devastation from Hurricane Idalia. But a White House official told CNN the governor hadn’t raised that issue when the president told him of his visit before announcing it publicly. Of course, those concerns were apparently not an issue when DeSantis welcomed Biden to the state to survey past calamities. Trump’s trial over the 2020 election interference may start in early 2024 if special counsel Jack Smith has his way. And while Trump’s criminal charges yielded “an online gold mine,” according to The New York Times, it’s unclear how much this bump in “bigly” fundraising will continue. Given our polarized electorate, the 2024 presidential election will be close regardless of who the Republican nominee is. Trump’s political action committee, Save America, has spent more than $40 million on legal fees since the start of 2023, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. The PAC also shelled out $16 million-plus on legal costs the previous year, Federal Election Commission records show. However, Paul Seamus Ryan, a campaign finance expert, recently told The Washington Post he did not see any “legal red flags” with the PAC paying Trump’s fees. It is disgraceful that Trump is using funds from small donors that they believed would fund his campaign for his own personal legal woes. But even Trump knows the more he spends on legal fees, the less he has for his 2024 campaign.

However, Graham soon began to grasp that a large segment of this Trump crowd — some of whom were yelling “traitor” — was not kidding around. Later when Trump took the podium, he needled Graham, saying, “You know you can make mistakes on occasion,” adding, “Even Lindsey down here, Sen. Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence, are attempting to take our nation backward by vowing to rename a military base in North Carolina in honor of Braxton Bragg, a slave-owning, former Confederate general. Fort Bragg became Fort Liberty earlier this month as part of a push to remove the names of Confederate leaders from military bases in the wake of protests over the police killing of George Floyd. Confederate President Jefferson Davis asked Bragg to leave his plantation and serve as a general.
