Bela Karolyi, one of the United States' most eminent gymnastics coaches alongside wife Márta, has died at age 82, a spokesperson for USA Gymnastics said Saturday evening. In an interview with USA Gymnastics in 2016, Retton described her first American Cup competition under the Karolyis. In 2016, USA Gymnastics purchased Karolyi Ranch and celebrated the couple’s influence on American competitors. In 2018, USA Gymnastics terminated its contract with Karolyi Ranch and closed the facility in Walker County, Texas. Comăneci said on Instagram that Bela Karolyi was a "big impact and influence in my life."

London CNN —Royal Mail could ditch its near-daily deliveries of letters as the centuries-old British institution attempts to modernize its service and plug a growing hole in its finances. Ofcom, the UK regulator overseeing the postal service, published proposals to rescue the beleaguered company Wednesday. It said Royal Mail could save as much as £650 million ($828 million) a year if it cut letter deliveries to three days a week from the current six. The number of letters sent via the Royal Mail network had halved since 2011, and financial losses have ballooned. Among its other proposals, Ofcom suggested that Royal Mail could save up to £200 million ($255 million) a year by cutting its letter deliveries down to five days a week, or by extending the time it takes to get mail to customers.

(AP) — About five people picketing in the United Auto Workers strike outside a Flint-area General Motors plant suffered minor injuries Tuesday when a vehicle leaving the plant struck them, police said. The striking workers were blocking a driveway, and an employee was trying to leave the Flint Processing Center in Swartz Creek when the collision occurred just before 4 p.m., Chief Matthew Bade of the Metro Police Authority of Genesee County said. The employee drove through the picket line to leave the plant, Bade said. “These people are out here, you know these are my membership, and they’re out here doing a peaceful, legal demonstration." Among the highlights is Christie's Paul G. Allen Collection, which includes more than 150 pieces spanning 500 years. The collection, from the estate of the late Microsoft co-founder, includes works by Pablo Picasso, Georges Seurat, Paul Cezanne and Lucien Freud. Sotheby's Modern Art Evening Auction will be held on Nov. 14, followed by a Contemporary Evening Auction on Nov. 16. "There are so many amazing works on offer," Sotheby's head of impressionist and modern art for the Americas, Julian Dawes, said.
