CNBC asked artists to name their top New York galleries, ranging from the well-known to the underground. London-based screen-printing artist Diego Arellano likes Manhattan's Chelsea galleries for their large rooms and high ceilings. Hauser & Wirth has two Chelsea galleries, and both are currently showing work by Hungarian-born U.S. artist Rita Ackermann. The Dia Chelsea gallery in New York City will show an exhibition by British filmmaker Steve McQueen in September. Dia Chelsea | Elizabeth FelicellaBrooklyn resident and artist Zhuo Xiong also favors Chelsea galleries.

I traveled to my first Art Basel, an international art fair hosted each summer in Basel, Switzerland. Collectively, this made up Art Basel, the world's premiere art show, where more than 250 gallerists feature 4,000 artists. Photo Basel and the Liste Art Fair Basel are hosted on the same weekend. Growing up in Florida, I'm sure I heard murmurs about Art Basel Miami, one of the four locations where Art Basel fairs are held each year.

☆ Las Vegas monolith: A ‘mysterious’ pillar appears on hiking trail in Nevada

CNN —Another “mysterious” monolith has been spotted. This time, on a Las Vegas hiking trail in Nevada, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). “How did it get up there?”The monolith was found over the weekend near Gass Peak north of Las Vegas, it added. The pillar is reminiscent to ones popping up all over the world shortly after a 10-feet silver monolith was discovered in late 2020 by a helicopter crew flying over an Utah desert. As for the one found on the Las Vegas hiking trail, social media users claimed the monolith isn’t actually new.

CNN —It was not until I looked at “Family Room” for the second time that I saw the two children. The scene of decay and demise is a painting by LA-based artist Sayre Gomez, called “Family Room,” that brings together disparate elements of his hometown in an unnervingly photorealist style. The work forms part of his solo show “Heaven N’ Earth,” at art dealer Xavier Hufkens’ flagship gallery in Brussels, Belgium, exploring the complex dichotomies of the urban landscape. The Broad Museum in Los Angeles has also recently added Gomez’s work to its collection. Gomez's photo-realistic work is currently appearing in a solo show at Xavier Hufkens in Brussels, Belgium (above) and a group show at The Broad in Los Angeles.

The annual fair, which also has iterations in Basel, Paris, and Miami Beach, runs from March 23-25 in Hong Kong. "Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the Asian art market has also remained resilient, with Greater China accounting for 20% of worldwide sales by value and ranking second as the second largest regional art market in the latest edition of the Art Basel," Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz told reporters. Leading international galleries at Art Basel this year include Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Lehmann Maupin, Victoria Miro, Pace, Perrotin, White Cube and David Zwirner. We haven't really changed the process of the show since 2013," said Angelle Siyang-Le, the director Art Basel Hong Kong.
