Dallas AP —Texas has sued a Dallas doctor over accusations of providing gender-affirming care to youths, marking one of the first times a state has sought to enforce recent bans driven by Republicans. The Texas law prevents transgender people under 18 from accessing hormone therapies, puberty blockers and transition surgeries, though surgical procedures are rarely performed on children. Children’s Health said in a statement that it “follows and adheres to all state health care laws.”At least 26 states have adopted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, and most of those states face lawsuits. The lawsuit comes just weeks before an election in which Republicans have used support of gender-affirming health care as a way to attack their opponents. Greg Abbott, who was the first governor to order the investigation of families of transgender minors who receive gender-affirming care.

CNN —A suspect has been arrested after the former assistant to the Duchess of York was found dead in a Dallas apartment earlier this week, officials said. Officers responded Monday afternoon to a home in downtown Dallas where they found Jenean Chapman, 46, had died, according to the Dallas Police Department. Chapman worked as an assistant for the duchess, Sarah Ferguson, years ago, Ferguson said in a social media post. Jenean Chapman, 46. Dallas police did not outline any motive in the case and did not say whether Chapman and the suspect knew one another or had any relationship.

CNN —Pro Football Hall of Famer Gil Brandt, widely regarded as the architect who helped build the Dallas Cowboys into one of the most successful and popular sports franchises of all time, died on Thursday, according to the Cowboys. After a six-decade NFL executive career – 29 years with the Cowboys – Brandt was inducted into the Hall in 2019. As the vice president of player personnel for the Cowboys, Brandt was lauded for his acute ability to recognize player talent – having drafted nine Cowboys players who, like Brandt, are Pro Football Hall of Famers. Brandt is also credited in helping build the annual player draft into a three-day, made-for-TV event. A 14-year-old girl fatally shot an 11-year-old boy at a Dallas apartment complex parking lot after retrieving a gun during an argument with another child, police said. Police said that the 14-year-old shot in the direction of the girl she was fighting with, but the shot ended up striking the 11-year-old bystander on Sunday afternoon. D'evan McFall, 11, was killed in a shooting in Dallas on Jan. 15, 2023. Police say the 14-year-old ran from the scene of the shooting and was later taken into custody at a nearby apartment complex. The 14-year-old is being held at a juvenile justice center and is expected to be charged with murder, they said.
