New York CNN —Additional charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams are “possible” and it’s “likely” there will be additional defendants charged as part of the alleged scheme in the federal corruption case, a prosecutor said Wednesday at a court hearing. Federal prosecutor Hagan Scotten said they have evidence that Adams attempted to tamper with a witness in the investigation. The federal prosecutor revealed new information about the investigation, saying it began in the summer of 2021 before Adams became mayor. The additional defendants could be charged in a superseding indictment or in a separate case, Scotten added. New York City Mayor Eric Adams arrived in federal court in Manhattan on Friday morning for his arraignment on criminal charges of receiving illegal campaign donations and undisclosed luxury travel gifts while doing favors for Turkey's government and Turkish businessmen. Adams, 64, was charged in a five-count indictment unsealed Thursday alleging conspiracy, bribery, wire fraud, and soliciting campaign contributions by foreign nationals. Kathy Hochul, a fellow Democrat weighs whether to force him from office by invoking a never-before-used provision of the city's Charter. Adams is set to be arraigned at noon ET before a magistrate judge, where he is expected to enter a not-guilty plea. District Court Judge Dale Hoe has scheduled an initial conference in Adams' case for Oct. 2, rejecting a request by the mayor's lawyer to hold the arraignment and that conference on a single day.

A gunman who opened fire in a New Hampshire church during a wedding, wounding the bride and bishop, was sentenced Monday to a minimum of 50 years to life in prison. The man, Dale Holloway, 41, barged into the New England Pentecostal Ministries church in Pelham, N.H., on Oct. 12, 2019, on an apparent revenge mission, shooting Bishop Stanley Choate in the chest and the bride, Claire McMullen, in the arm, according to court documents. At the end of the wedding ceremony, Mr. Holloway stood up and moved toward the altar, at which point Bishop Choate stretched his arms out and pleaded, “Son, no, no, no, no,” prosecutors said. Mr. Holloway then shot the bishop and the bride. Mr. Holloway also struck Mr. Castiglione in the head before churchgoers tackled him to the ground, prosecutors said.

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — A man convicted of opening fire inside a New Hampshire church during a wedding, wounding a bishop and the bride, was sentenced Monday to 40 years to life in prison. The shooting happened nearly two weeks after Holloway’s stepfather, a pastor at the church, was killed by the son of the groom. The jury acquitted Holloway of an attempted murder charge in the shooting of McMullen. Authorities said Castiglione is the father of a man convicted of killing Holloway’s stepfather. Brandon Castiglione was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 42 years in prison earlier this year for fatally shooting Holloway’s stepfather, Luis Garcia, inside his home.
