Wayne Northrop, an actor who played two roles on the long-running daytime soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” as a good-hearted detective and then as a shadowy doctor, died on Friday. Mr. Northrop, who learned six years ago that he had early onset Alzheimer’s disease, died at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home in Woodland Hills, Calif., according to a family statement from his publicist, Cynthia Synder. He appeared in several television shows throughout his career, including the prime-time legal drama “L.A. Mr. Northrop appeared in 35 episodes. — As President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration solidifies its plan for mass deportations, local law enforcement agencies are preparing to ramp up a controversial program that allows them to partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It authorizes ICE to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the ability to perform certain functions of an immigration officer. According to ICE, as of May 2024, law enforcement agencies in 21 states participated in the program. Other critics have also said the 287(g) program merely serves as a political messaging tool for conservative sheriffs. Earlier this month, the Los Angeles City Council passed an ordinance that prohibits the use of city resources in immigration enforcement.

TuesdayA quick-moving storm is bringing rain to parts of the East Coast while a few snowflakes fall around the Great Lakes. High elevation snow will bury areas from California’s Sierra Nevada to the Colorado Rockies while rain falls at lower elevations. Conditions will ease throughout the day for California and Nevada but sloppy weather will persist farther east, especially in Utah and Colorado. Dreary weather will extend from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast as the storm that formed late Wednesday pushes east. The Thanksgiving day storm will largely be out of the East by sunrise but lake-effect snow will start up for areas downwind of the Great Lakes as Arctic air rushes over the record-warm lakes.
