The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, launched the probe in October to establish whether Chinese EV prices are artificially low because of subsidies and so hurt European carmakers. Europe is the main destination for Chinese EV exports. The new EV tariffs are likely to kick off intense negotiations between Beijing and Brussels aimed at averting a damaging trade war. Despite improvements, supply-chain issues are lingering, reducing Morocco production of the Dacia Sandero city car by 20,000 during the period, an executive said. Dacia, which boasts best-sellers such as the Sandero and is expanding its range of electric vehicles (EVs), sold 345,432 vehicles between January and June, the Dacia unit said in a statement. That compares to 277,885 units in the same period of 2022, which was heavily impacted by COVID-19 and component shortages. Sales of the Chinese-made Spring, one of the most affordable electric models on the French market, soared by 38%, while sales of the Sandero were up 24%. PARIS, June 15 (Reuters) - The world's No.3 carmaker Stellantis will unveil its first European-made affordable electric car in mid-October, the new Citroën e-C3, as it gears up to counter the arrival of lower-cost Chinese brands in the European market. Electric vehicles (EVs) are more expensive than their fossil-fuel counterparts and European carmakers plan cheaper models encouraged by government subsidies. That EV subsidy should be unveiled in October for cars to be delivered in 2024, a government source told Reuters. The need for more affordable European models has been driven by Chinese EV brands, which are seen as a threat to European carmakers as they can offer cheaper models. Built on Stellantis' "smart car" architecture introduced in India and Latin America, the vehicle will be assembled in Slovakia and will launch early in 2024, Koskas said.

PARIS, June 2 (Reuters) - Renault (RENA.PA) could face prosecution in France over faulty engines as a group of customers plans to lodge a criminal complaint against the carmaker next week, the group's lawyer said on Friday. The decision to file the complaint follows unsuccessful discussions between Renault and the plaintiffs over the faulty engines, he added. A Renault spokesperson said the company had been providing technical support and financial help to affected customers. "The Renault Group never stopped and continues reviewing demands that it is receiving," the spokesperson said. "Support demands that could not be addressed have all been carefully reviewed and an answer has been given," Renault said.

The Model Y is the electric vehicle (EV) maker's best-selling model globally. Tesla's website showed that customers in Canada could take delivery of the new version of the Model Y between May and July. Tesla Shanghai began production of the Canada-bound version of Model Y earlier this month, the person with knowledge of the development said. The introduction of the cheaper Model Y for Canada qualified both it and Tesla's C$69,900 long-range Model Y for the incentive as of Friday, Transport Canada said on its website. Tesla’s Shanghai plant uses lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for the Model Y version produced there for sale in China and for export to Europe and other markets.

PARIS, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Renault (RENA.PA) group sales in 2022 fell by 5.9% to 2,051,174 vehicles, marking a fourth consecutive annual decline after capacity constraints and supply chain snags, the company said on Wednesday. The group, which is in the middle of a turnaround, said its order book in Europe was at a record level of 3.5 months of sales. A day after publishing a 9.4% decline in 2022 sales for its flagship Renault brand, it said that had been partly offset by the performance of its low-cost brand Dacia, which posted a 6.8% increase in sales. It said on Tuesday that the Renault brand, which accounts for two-thirds of group sales, was the third European brand for electrified vehicle sales behind Toyota (7203.T) and Tesla (TSLA.O) with 228,000 units sold, an increase of 12% from 2021. But its executives have acknowledged that global price cuts announced recently by Tesla were an issue that Renault - like rivals - would have to contend with.

Oct 27 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc's (TSLA.O) Model Y topped new vehicle registrations in Europe last month, market research data showed, indicating that the mid-sized SUV from the world's most valuable automaker is fast-becoming a vehicle of choice in the region. This is the first time that Tesla's sports utility vehicle has led the rankings in Europe, London-based JATO Dynamics said on Wednesday as 29,367 Model Y cars were registered last month, up 227% from last year. The Model Y is one of the most successful cars from Tesla, which has produced 879,346 units so far this year compared to 906,032 units in all of last year. The sales surge for Tesla's Model Y underscores its effort to ramp up production at its plant in Berlin, Germany, which opened in March and now produces 2,000 cars per week. Earlier this month, Tesla had warned of logistical challenges are likely to hamper vehicles deliveries in the near term.
