The owners say they're huge Tesla fans, and want to one day cook pizza for Elon Musk. AdvertisementA pizzeria in New Jersey has transformed two Cybertrucks into pizza trucks, using one of the Tesla vehicle's most futuristic features to cook pizzas on the go. They wanted new vehicles to relieve the strain on their gasoline pizza truck, which the two partners say was frequently booked months in advance. Now, they say they are facing a huge wave of demand for their Cybertruck pizza trucks, which they've modified to cook pizzas at parties and events. Like other electric vehicles, including the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Cybertruck has bidirectional charging, allowing it to become a mobile power source for appliances and even other electric vehicles.

But recent sales data from the auto-industry tracker Cox Automotive is worth examining ahead of Tesla's results on Wednesday. Tesla sold almost 17,000 Cybertrucks in the third quarter, Cox estimated, making it the third-most-popular EV in the US during the period. That's more than Ford's F-150 Lightning, Rivian's R1T, and Chevy's Silverado EV, Cox data shows. General Motors reported surprisingly solid results earlier this week and highlighted strong EV sales. Related storiesSome of this recent EV strength has been driven by lease incentives, which are available in the US to more buyers.

New Tesla Cybertruck vehicles parked at a logistics drop zone in Seattle, Washington, US, on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024. Tesla said on Thursday it would recall most Cybertrucks in the U.S. due to delayed rear-view camera images that could impair driver visibility and increase crash risks, adding that a software update would resolve the issue. The recall covers more than 27,000 Cybertrucks, Tesla said in a report filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Cybertruck's system in the affected vehicles may not complete a shutdown process before it is commanded to boot up, resulting in a delay in displaying the rear-view image, Tesla said. Tesla earlier this year recalled most Cybertrucks in the U.S. over issues with their windshield wipers and exterior trim.

I am a big fan of Tesla products and the company, but we do not currently own the stock. Since hitting its all-time high on Nov. 4, Tesla shares are the worst-performing member of the "Magnificent Seven". With prices running from about $40,000 for a single-motor version to $70,000 for a tri-motor variant, the Cybertruck's specifications were remarkable. China represents the largest market for EVs at the moment, and BYD is leading Tesla there. Among U.S. manufacturers, Tesla, because it eschews the conventional dealer model, has excellent flexibility on pricing, which they adjust dynamically.

Tesla shares fell for a seventh straight day, reaching their lowest since January 2023, as further price cuts over the weekend added to mounting concerns heading into the company's first-quarter earnings report Tuesday. Tesla also lowered the price of its premium driver assistance system by one-third. The price cut follows a monthlong free trial that Tesla pushed out to customers throughout North America starting in late March. Tesla's new Cybertruck is shown on display at a Tesla store in San Diego, California, on Dec. 9, 2023. Tesla has issued a voluntary recall of 3,878 Cybertrucks to fix a "stuck pedal" issue that had been depicted in a viral TikTok video posted last week by owner Jose Martinez. After assessing the problem, Tesla on April 12 decided to issue a voluntary recall of the Cybertrucks, the filing says. CNBC asked the NHTSA about the trapped pedal issue on the Cybertruck on April 14, after Martinez's video raised public awareness of the defect and unintended acceleration. The NHTSA said it "uses many data sources in its enforcement processes, including social media and vehicle owner and other related forums."

AdvertisementAuto expert Sandy Munro took a Tesla Cybertruck on a mini road trip and had one main complaint — the truck can be difficult to maneuver at times. Instead, Tesla has a rearview camera that displays on the truck's massive infotainment system. The auto expert is far from the first to express frustration with backing up in the Cybertruck. "A camera feed constantly runs on the center screen, but I still checked the rearview mirror out of habit every few minutes." "You have to be cognizant all the time that this is a big truck," Munro said of the Cybertruck.

Some Tesla Cybertruck owners noticed their new stainless steel vehicles have small rust specks. A few months after deliveries began, some members of a Cybertruck-owners forum started complaining about rust spots on the vehicle. After all, the Cybertruck is the first stainless steel vehicle to be produced since DMC made the stainless steel DeLorean and later halted production in 1982. The extra upkeep isn't entirely unexpected for experienced Tesla owners, many of whom have taken on the role of early adopters. If Tesla hits Musk's ambitious production targets for the Cybertruck, Tesla is likely to face less forgiving buyers, automotive analyst Ivan Drury told BI.

Tesla shared a video of a Cybertruck scaling a difficult off-road trail in Utah. The electric truck, which was shown with a driver inside, conquered the off-road trail known as Hell's Revenge in the video. Travel site Utah.com describes Hell's Revenge as having "steep climbs, descents, and some edges that are not for the faint of heart." Morrill said navigating Hell's Revenge with the tri-motor EV, called Cyberbeast, is "like off-roading in easy mode." The Cyberbeast truck managed to drive 318 feet with the sled, while the Ford truck got up to 263 feet.

Tesla's Cybertruck isn't the kind of car that goes unnoticed. The Cybertruck isn't your average pickupMusk has been hyping up the Cybertruck since it was announced in 2019. But it's not exactly your typical luxury status car, eitherWhile the Cybertruck isn't a traditional pickup, it's not exactly a luxury car. The Tesla Cybertruck is impressive and worrying

Then, in 2019, Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Cybertruck, a bare metal box on wheels. Even when I parked a rented Tesla Cybertruck next to a hot-pink McLaren supercar in a shopping center parking lot in California, the people in the McLaren couldn’t stop talking about the Cybertruck. Peter Valdes-Dapena/CNNThe Tesla Cybertruck looks like nothing else on the road. There’s a lot to like about the Cybertruck, but it also embodies a disturbing level of individual arrogance in hard, unforgiving steel. The Tesla Cybertruck's simple interior is nice enough but, with hardly any switches or knobs, this is the easy part.

One owner even said they'd been warned when the truck was delivered that it could rust in the rain. "The advisor specifically mentioned the Cybertrucks develop orange rust marks in the rain and that required the vehicle to be buffed out," a member of the Cybertruck Owners Club forum wrote. Stainless is reactive and free iron that sits on it will rust," the Cybertruck engineer said. Demaree said the latter method appeared to do the trick but advised Cybertruck owners to be careful using the polish on the truck. Tesla delivered its first dozen on November 30, and several celebrities have been spotted with their own Cybertrucks in the months since.
