These picks incorporate secular themes and a lot to offer Wall Street as the economic landscape changes, he said. Cummins green energy efforts and said it has a strong power systems business that makes products for buildings, including data centers. Even if truck sales have slowed, he said the data systems business is doing well, as data centers — which need generators — continue to proliferate. The company reported higher-than-expected earnings earlier in August, and management indicated power systems drove sales that quarter. Dover topped expectations, but said Wall Street seems to be underestimating the stock at the moment.

Cummins should see more earnings upside as data center demand for backup power supplies remains strong, according to Morgan Stanley. Analysts led by Angel Castillo named Columbus, Indiana-based Cummins a top pick and reiterated an overweight investment rating. Castillo also raised his price target by $2 to $341, implying 16% upside from Friday's close. The analyst said data center-related growth was once thought of as immaterial to total sales for companies like Cummins and Caterpillar . On top of data centers, Morgan Stanley also pointed to an improved view on the North American truck business cycle due to emission regulations and Cummin's productivity initiatives.

In a Thursday interview with CNBC's Jim Cramer, Cummins CEO Jennifer Rumsey explained why hydrogen plays a role in the company's strategy. "We need hydrogen, hydrogen has to be a part of the answer," she said. "And the reason is, you've got renewable energy that we need to convert into some kind of fuel, transport, and have it available when we need it." Rumsey explained that hydrogen can provide a way to store renewable energy and transport it to where fuel is needed. "We're investing today in hydrogen engines, so we'll be able to burn hydrogen in these HELM engine platforms, and then also in fuel cells," Rumsey said.

Australia won the T20 Cricket World Cup just three years ago, while Afghanistan has never progressed past the tournament’s second round nor defeated Australia in international cricket. But on Saturday, Afghanistan kept its hopes of progressing to the semifinals alive with a historic, comprehensive win over Australia, stunning its opponents by 21 runs. Afghanistan has been steadily improving over the past 20 years, roundly defeating England in October at the ICC Cricket World Cup and another heavyweight team New Zealand in the group stage of this tournament. Afghanistan has a chance to reach the semifinals of the T20 World Cup if it can defeat Bangladesh in its final Super Eights match and India beats Australia. If Australia wins its final Super Eights match against India, it will likely qualify for the semifinals.

Companies that manufacture small, quickly deployable natural gas turbines and generators are poised to benefit as surging electricity demand from data centers creates major delays in adding new capacity to the power grid, according to Morgan Stanley. "We believe this greater appreciation for the current grid connectivity challenges will heighten investor interest in/focus on emerging 'time to power' solutions," the analysts told clients. Power projects waiting for connection to the Lone Star state's grid have surged from 17 gigawatts to about 40 gigawatts in less than two years, according to the analysts. There is also an extensive wait time for diesel-powered, backup generators for new data center projects, according to Morgan Stanley. Companies such as Cummins and Caterpillar are also poised to benefit because they manufacture natural gas-powered generators that provide backup power onsite, according to Morgan Stanley.

The advent of artificial intelligence has sent demand for data centers skyrocketing, along with industrial components to keep all the AI chips from overheating. "The key for chipmakers with AI ambitions is keeping data centers cool," Melius Research analyst Jake Levinson told CNBC. Levinson said cooling technologies manufacturers Carrier Global , Trane Technologies and Johnson Controls are all seeing higher demand for HVACs. Then there are the companies that create the infrastructure used to regulate temperature – from Parker-Hannafin's fluid connectors to Dover's industrial-style pumps used in liquid cooling. "We're having to challenge ourselves and how we support that capacity growth," CEO Scott Strazik told CNBC after the company posted first-quarter earnings last month.

U.S. one hundred dollar bills are being shown in this picture illustration taken in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Dec. 15, 2023. Japan intervened in the currency market three times in 2022 as the yen slid toward what was then a 32-year low of 152 to the dollar. The Japanese central bank last month ended eight years of negative interest rates but yen has remained rooted near 151 per dollar levels since then. The euro was last at $1.0744, having dropped 1% on Wednesday ahead of the European Central Bank, or ECB, meeting later in the day. Data centers house vast amounts of computing power needed for AI workloads, and that need is set to grow as many tech companies are rapidly developing infrastructure for artificial intelligence. The bank named three stocks to play the trend: U.S.-listed power management firm Eaton , French energy tech firm Schneider Electric and U.S. power tech firm Cummins . It says Eaton is the key U.S. play on data centers, with 14% exposure and "broad favourable trends" in electrification, while Cummins has "favourable backup power exposure" to data centers. UBS gave Eaton a price target of $330, representing marginal downside. It gave the stock a price target of 250 euros ($270), or around 20% potential upside.

But what if I told you this group shrunk its share count dramatically since 2019? The numbers tell the story: Lennar now has 276 million shares outstanding, down from 318 million five years ago. Other than Toll, most of the homebuilder management teams do not emphasize this fundamental change in share count. Management has been buying hand over fist since 2019, shrinking the share count to 215 million from 264 million. My rather unassailable conclusion is pretty simple: Check the share count before you buy a stock.

I have not been a fan of this company because of its losses and its inability to pivot to profit.
