CFO turnover hit 8.9% globally during the period, surpassing levels in 2022 and 2023. A global pandemic, increased geopolitical tensions overseas, supply chain disruptions and recession concerns have made the CFO role even harder. Jim Cramer also has pounded the table of the importance of the CFO role, arguing that "a good CFO can give you a feeling of a Good Housekeeping seal of approval." Moving forward, it's unclear whether CFO turnover will continue to pickup. "If a CFO immediately resigns intra quarter, what companies will do sometimes is reaffirm their guidance to ease investor concerns.

REUTERS/Octavio Jones/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 8 (Reuters) - The future of abortion rights in Florida will be at stake on Friday when the state's highest court hears arguments over whether the Florida constitution protects the right to end pregnancies. The case before the conservative Florida Supreme Court concerns the state's current ban on most abortions after 15 weeks, which took effect after the U.S. Supreme Court last year overturned a national right to abortion. The outcome will also determine the fate of a stricter six-week ban, which has been on hold since Governor Ron DeSantis signed it into law in April. One justice, Charles Canady, is married to a state representative who co-sponsored the six-week ban. But if the court throws out the 1989 decision, Torres-Spelliscy said, it would be nearly impossible to mount a successful legal challenge to the six-week ban.

NEW YORK, Aug 14 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Chief financial officers are stepping into an increasingly rapidly revolving door. loadingIn the first half of this year, 103 of the top 1,000 companies ranked by Fortune lost their CFO, according to executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles. Complicating the matter for DeSantis: Trump, the front-runner in the race by far, appears unwilling to provide him with a target. Rival campaigns smell blood in the water as DeSantis has faced questions over profligate campaign spending and his readiness for the national stage. In the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, released last week, Trump held 47% of the Republican vote nationally, with DeSantis dropping six points from July down to just 13%. Rick Santorum, a former U.S. senator and Republican presidential candidate who participated in a series of debates in the 2012 election, said DeSantis will need to be ready for an “onslaught” of attacks. “If I was on that stage, I would be going after Trump,” Santorum said.

Veterans say they quit Ron DeSantis's State Guard because training became too militaristic. One recruit accused the guard of becoming "a militia," per the Miami Herald and Tampa Bay Times. DeSantis reestablished the Florida state guard in June 2022, promoting it as a civilian disaster relief force in a "natural disaster-prone state." Florida's State Guard was originally created in 1941 to support the Florida National Guard during World War II, but the unit was disbanded in 1947. The Florida governor said last year that he didn't like the "putrid" smell. But DeSantis did help advance access to medical marijuana in Florida. Ron DeSantis said legalizing cannabis would not be on his agenda if he's elected to the White House in 2024. DeSantis, who did advance rules for medical cannabis use in Florida, said he wouldn't pursue legalization nationally, expressing concerns about more young people accessing weed. On Capitol Hill, the issue of cannabis legalization has become more bipartisan, particularly as a growing number of states have made it available medically and recreationally.

Monday's revelation comes after 16 migrants from Venezuela and Colombia arrived by plane on Friday and were dropped off at a Catholic church. Ron DeSantis of Florida, who is also a 2024 presidential candidate, has yet to speak publicly about the matter. A dozen Biden and Democratic officials laid out a plan to attack DeSantis in 2024, per a CNN report. The officials told CNN that DeSantis would be vulnerable on abortion, guns, and battles with Disney. Biden is making an early election push in Florida, a state that has turned sharply toward the GOP. Biden is making an early push to win Florida ahead of the 2024 presidential election, despite major Republican gains in the state over the past decade. "They've realized the outcome of their negligence," former Democratic Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell told CNN.
Being in a teacher's union in Florida just got harder. The system would replace the current arrangement, widely used in unions across the US, in which teacher union dues get automatically deducted from their paychecks. On average, roughly 60% of teachers in Florida are paying dues toward their unions, shows a Florida Senate analysis. The signings represent a win for DeSantis, who has battled teacher's unions since the COVID pandemic and first proposed the change to union dues in December 2022. Florida comes in at 48th in the nation for average teacher salaries, according to the National Education Association, the state's largest teacher's union.
Being in a teacher's union in Florida just got harder. Ron DeSantis of Florida signed a bill into law Tuesday that will require teachers who want to be in unions to mail in written checks every month. The system would replace the current arrangement, widely used in unions across the US, in which teacher union dues get automatically deducted from their paychecks. The change will make it harder for unions to exist and pile red tape onto teachers, Florida Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book said in a statement. CNN —Florida lawmakers gave final passage Friday to a measure that clears a path for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president without resigning from his current job. The legislation approved Friday exempts “any person seeking the office of President or Vice President of the United States” from the resign-to-run law. “I can’t think of a better training ground than the state of Florida for a future commander in chief,” Republican state Rep. Tyler Sirois said. This is not be the first time that Florida lawmakers have voted to amend the resign-to-run law to help clear a path for a governor to reach the White House.
It does a ton of business in China, which many GOP voters view as a threat to the US. DeSantis already ran on being anti-Disney — and wonTaryn Fenske, DeSantis' communications director, has described the Disney fight as being "the will of Florida voters." And they might not vote for DeSantis if they think the Disney fight is a killer in a general election. Families often work hard and save for years to take their children to Disney World. If DeSantis can't bring a resolution to the Disney fight, can he handle the job of president?
Republicans in Florida are changing the law so DeSantis can run for president and keep his job. The Trump campaign accused DeSantis of violating the law, even though he hasn't made a bid official. "If an individual who is Florida governor is running for president, I think he should be allowed to do it," Passidomo told reporters at the time. Hutson disagreed that with the assessment that DeSantis wouldn't be able to both operate as governor and run for president. That figure is even higher for EMEA- and APAC-based finance execs, with 73% and 61%, respectively, saying that the average CFO tenure was under five years. An analysis of 679 Fortune 500 and S&P 500 companies in 2022 by Crist Kolder Associates also found that average CFO tenure is on the decline, at five years. The pre-2022 IPO and funding boom has likely increased CFO turnover as new opportunities arose more frequently. Gutzeit says the current economic environment, with increasing layoffs and corporate restructuring, should influence more CFOs to stay put. She expects a slight decline in CFO turnover as "people are going to be more cautious about where they're going and what is changing."
