CNN —An Australian police officer has been charged with manslaughter after he tasered a 95-year-old woman with dementia in a nursing home. Clare Nowland, a great-grandmother, died in hospital a week after she was tasered at the home in May. A 33-year-old senior constable, Kristian White, is alleged to have tasered Nowland at the home after asking her to drop a steak knife she was holding. The other officer attempted to grab the knife, but Nowland is said to have moved towards them with her walker. Family friend Andrew Thaler said at the time that before the incident Nowland was frail and unable to stand unaided.

London CNN —The director of the British Museum has stepped down amid an investigation into the alleged theft of gold and artifacts from the famous London institution. Explaining his decision in a statement on Friday, Fischer said: “Over the last few days I have been reviewing in detail the events around the thefts from the British Museum and the investigation into them. “The British Museum has launched an independent review of security after items from the collection were found to be missing, stolen or damaged. “The matter is also under investigation by the Economic Crime Command of the Metropolitan Police.”In a statement provided to CNN, the Metropolitan Police said: “We have been working alongside the British Museum. CNN —An employee at the British Museum has been dismissed — and the Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation — after a number of items from the museum’s collection were found to be “missing, stolen or damaged,” the museum said in a statement Wednesday. “The British Museum has launched an independent review of security after items from the collection were found to be missing, stolen or damaged. In a statement, the Met said detectives from its Specialist Crime Command met virtually with representatives from the BBC on Monday morning. It is a criminal offense in the UK to take or obtain sexually explicit photographs of anyone under the age of 18. The BBC has not yet named the presenter in question.

LONDON, July 10 (Reuters) - Allegations that an unnamed BBC presenter paid a young person to pose for explicit photos are "rubbish", a lawyer acting for the young person has told the broadcaster in a letter. The presenter, who has not been named by the BBC or the Sun newspaper, was suspended on Sunday following the claims. The BBC reported on Monday, however, that a lawyer for the young person had written to the broadcaster stating that the allegation was "rubbish". The lawyer said the young person sent a denial to the Sun newspaper on Friday evening, when it first published the allegation, saying there was "no truth" to it, the BBC said. BBC News said it did not know the identity of the young person and had not spoken directly to them, nor had it seen the Sun's evidence.
