"The thing is, Bazball is in test cricket. One day cricket's different and we've been playing different all the time," Moeen told reporters ahead of Thursday's match against the 1996 champions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. "We've been playing aggressive cricket throughout since 2015 and done it quite well. Probably the lack of that way of cricket has cost us a little bit in this tournament. "We haven't been playing that way in my opinion and we need to play that way without slogging the ball.

Afghanistan posted 284 after half centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ikram Alikhil, before bowling out England for 215 to claim just their second victory at a World Cup - eight years after their maiden win over Scotland in 2015. "This is significant, certainly in the manner and by the margin as well," Trott told reporters on Sunday. "What Afghanistan cricket can achieve, hopefully this will be the sort of kick-start." Women's sport in Afghanistan has also suffered since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. "It's not just cricket that the guys are playing for," Trott said.

India captain Rohit plays down hype around Pakistan blockbuster

COLOMBO, Sept 1 (Reuters) - India captain Rohit Sharma played down hype around Saturday's Asia Cup blockbuster against Pakistan, saying their focus is on using the tournament to fine-tune their preparations for the home World Cup later this year. For us, we don't want to look into all those things," the opener deadpanned in the pre-match press conference on Friday. "What is going to help us is - keep doing the right things on the pitch and make the right decisions that take us forward as a team." The six-team tournament assumes more importance for India as they chase their first global title in more than a decade at the home World Cup in October-November. "When we finish the tournament, hopefully we can achieve that and go into the next one and half months of the World Cup."

Australia digests 'hollow' Ashes retention in Manchester rain
  + stars: | 2023-07-24 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
"Rarely could the Ashes have been secured in more hollow circumstances, with almost two days of rain saving Australia from what appeared certain defeat," wrote Malcolm Conn in the Sydney Morning Herald. "Despite being robbed of victory by the weather, England have only themselves to blame for being on the wrong side of history," Conn added. "England were in charge of the first test at Edgbaston before the cult of Bazball resulted in an over-optimistic declaration and reckless batting." Gideon Haigh, writing in the Australian, was kinder to the English but equally wary of any sort of celebrations over the retention of the Ashes. Feb 28 (Reuters) - New Zealand pulled off a remarkable one-run win over England on Tuesday as lionhearted paceman Neil Wagner's heroics saw the hosts become just the fourth side in test history to win a match after being asked to follow on. Wagner took four wickets and two crucial catches at Wellington's Basin Reserve, where the hosts recorded only the second one-run victory in test cricket following West Indies' famous 1993 win in Adelaide. Enter Wagner, who had bled more than eight runs an over in the third innings when England romped to a 267-run win in the series-opener at Mount Maunganui. "It's a special one this and we'll celebrate it well," said Wagner, who finished with 4-62 in the fourth innings. Over the home summer, England chased down fourth-innings targets above 250 in three successive tests to whitewash New Zealand.
MELBOURNE, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Mitchell Starc threatened South Africa number three Theunis de Bruyn with a 'Mankad' dismissal on Thursday after the batsman wandered way outside his crease at the non-striker's end during the second test in Melbourne. "Just stay in your crease, it’s not that hard," Starc barked at him. During the post-match media conference, Starc said he would consider dismissing players with the Mankad in future if he saw them taking off early like De Bruyn, earning a firm endorsement from his captain Pat Cummins. Starc said De Bruyn had been leaving his crease early on day three in Melbourne as well. Starc will not have the opportunity to Mankad De Bruyn in the next test, having been ruled out of the match due to an injured tendon on the middle finger of his bowling hand.
Losing millions of dollars when they were 24 years old was a defining moment for entrepreneurs Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth. More than a decade after its launch, their company Dream Sports says it's now valued at $8 billion dollars, with 160 million users to boot. Dream Sports is a sports tech firm from India that owns Dream11, the biggest fantasy gaming platform in the country. Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth launched their startup Dream11 when they were just 22 — but it quickly "crashed and burned." That is something they learned from losing a large sum of money in the early days of their company, Jain added.
Reuters accompanied a police unit tasked with tackling oil theft in September to two sites near Tumaco, a Pacific port in southwest Colombia that is the terminal for the country's Transandino oil pipeline. The animals, the trees - everything is totally burned," said Colonel Johan Pena, commander of the police unit charged with tackling oil theft in Narino, a province bordering Ecuador that is known for cocaine production. Reuters approached more than a dozen environmental groups, rights advocates, government agencies and international organizations who either said they had no detailed information on the extent of the environmental damage in Colombia from oil theft or did not respond to questions. Oil spills on land smother soil pore spaces, restricting microorganisms' access to oxygen, said Martha Daza, a professor at Cali-based university Universidad del Valle's school of engineering of natural resources and the environment. Regional health authorities in Narino did not immediately respond to questions about the health impact of oil spills.

Excitement is already building for the Oct. 23 blockbuster between the former champions in Melbourne but India captain Rohit sought to downplay the hype around one of cricket's greatest rivalries. "At the Asia Cup, and now here, whenever we meet, we talk about how things are back home, how the families are," Rohit said. "The previous generation of cricketers told us they too used to chat about these things -- 'how's life? Whenever we come across, I try to tap into his experience since he has served India for such a long time.
