For the first time in years, there is a chance that Harvey Weinstein could walk free. His New York conviction for sex crimes was overturned on Thursday. Manhattan’s district attorney says he wants to retry Mr. Weinstein, but that seems, at most, a maybe. Many of Mr. Weinstein’s accusers say they are horrified. But criminal convictions have never seemed like the ultimate measure of Mr. Weinstein’s behavior.

In “Blacktop Wasteland” and “Razorblade Tears” (and an earlier thriller, “My Darkest Prayer”), Cosby worked the outlaw side of the crime/suspense genre. In this new one he’s written a crackling good police procedural. Titus deals with two girlfriends, one new and one old (the old one is, unsurprisingly, a true-crime podcaster). As in most novels of this type, he’s positive he’s missed some vital clue, and sure enough, he has. This is news from a part of America that’s rarely written about, especially from a Black perspective.

All the Sinners Bleed, by S.A. CosbyCosby follows his earlier thrillers “Razorblade Tears” and “Blacktop Wasteland” with a rural, hair-raising crime story. Titus Crown, a former F.B.I. agent, has returned to his Virginia hometown and become the rare Black sheriff in the area. A beloved white high school teacher is killed, bringing to light a much darker crime: The teacher was part of a group that tortured and killed Black children, and one of his conspirators is still at large. As Crown investigates, each twist is a reminder that, in Cosby’s telling, “no place was more confused by its past or more terrified of the future than the South.”Flatiron, June 6

According to the suit, Cosby drugged and raped Bernard, who played Mrs. Minifield on “The Cosby Show,” in New Jersey and Nevada in 1990 and at his Manhattan home in 1991. Gittens alleges Cosby invited her to his Manhattan home in 1989 or 1990 to discuss working on “The Cosby Show” but then drugged her and sexually assaulted her. Thompson alleges Cosby made her inappropriately touch him without her consent at his Manhattan home in 1988 when she was 18. Ladd alleges Cosby drugged her and raped her in 1969.
