watch nowMoscow signaled to the West that it's ready for a nuclear confrontation after Ukraine was given permission to attack Russian territory — and appeared to quickly act on that greenlight — using U.S.-made long-range missiles. Ukrainian news outlets reported early Tuesday that the missiles had been used to attack a Russian military facility in the Bryansk border region. The Kremlin has repeatedly warned the West against allowing Ukraine to use its long-range weapons to attack Russia directly. Moscow upped the ante Tuesday as Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree approving its updated nuclear doctrine, shifting the parameters on when Russia can use nuclear weapons. "Aggression against the Russian Federation by any non-nuclear state with the participation or support of a nuclear state is considered a joint attack."

CNN —If you saw an enormous, deadly funnel-web spider sitting on her egg sac, your first instinct might be to run away. Funnel-webs, whose most dangerous species lives in and around Sydney, are known for their deadly, fast-acting venom. The zoo is the sole supplier of funnel-web spider antivenom, which it produces by milking the spiders collected. “We want to encourage the spider with her egg sac into the jar in one movement, trying not to make her so angry that she destroys the egg sac,” Teni says in the video. Each egg sac contains about 150-200 spiderlings, making it a valuable source of antivenom.

As an experienced chef and cooking instructor, I love this take on twice-baked potatoes. Here's my go-to recipe for twice-baked potatoes with mascarpone and chives. Alissa FitzgeraldRusset potatoes mash beautifully and retain a great shape when the insides are scooped out thanks to their thicker skin. Additionally, this recipe uses medium-sized potatoes since cutting these beauties in half isn't as visually appealing as stuffing them whole. Alissa FitzgeraldThe filling for these twice-baked potatoes has two notable tweaks from many classic recipes — there's no added milk, and it calls for mascarpone instead of sour cream.

Canadian Labor Minister Steven MacKinnon has invoked federal powers to end work stoppages at the ports of Vancouver, Prince Rupert and Montreal, ordering binding and final arbitration between labor unions and ports ownership. Strike actions by unions and ports ownership lockouts had hit both coasts of the key U.S. northern trade partner. "The lockouts of the Canadian ports were causing ships to divert and contributing to congestion and delays throughout North America. Under section 107 of the Canada Labor Code, the Labor Minister can order binding arbitration to end labor disputes. Existing collective agreements will remain in place pending a new deal being reached between dockworker unions and the ports.

In an instant, the impacts of her state’s restrictive laws on abortion care became clear: Had Bell been bleeding from a car accident or a burst appendix, doctors could help her right away. But because she was having a miscarriage in a hospital in Georgia, surgery had to wait. Several others restrict it to certain points in pregnancy, including Georgia, which limits abortion to the first six weeks of pregnancy. Bell’s pregnancy was at 18 weeks — too early for her fetus to survive outside the womb but well past Georgia’s limit. Doctors told Bell she’d have to wait, unless her condition grew worse: Georgia makes people wait 24 hours before they can have an abortion except in medical emergencies.

Nurphoto | Nurphoto | Getty ImagesDonald Trump's election victory over Vice President Kamala Harris marks a historic return to the White House — an extraordinary political comeback that is likely to have seismic ramifications for the global economy. The former president's litany of campaign pledges include steep tariffs, tax cuts, deregulation and a push to withdraw from key global agreements. Trump's favorite wordTrump has previously described "tariff" as his favorite word, calling it "the most beautiful word in the dictionary." And we don't see Trump's secondary tariff pledge — that baseline tariff, which would hurt European companies — as being all that feasible," Galbraith said. Analysts have warned that Trump's plan to impose universal tariffs are highly likely to raise prices for consumers and slow spending.

The global tariff threat is fueling calls for frontloading from all around the globe," he said. But they added it is based on the belief is tariffs increase the costs of trade, in turn lowering demand and volumes. "Shipping is a global industry feeding on international trade, so another Trump presidency is a step in the wrong direction," said Sand. "The knee-jerk reaction from U.S. shippers will be to frontload imports before Trump is able to impose his new tariffs." Logistics companies serving the Mexico to U.S. cross-border trade tell CNBC new Trump tariffs can have a negative impact on historic cross-border truck trade.

Key ports on Canada's West Coast, including its largest container port in Vancouver and the Port of Prince Rupert, were shut down by a labor strike on Monday. According to the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, $800 million in trade flows through West Coast ports every day. Montreal processes 40% of all East Coast container traffic. Approximately $572 million in container trade arrives daily in the U.S. from Canada, according to U.S. Census data. A temporary loss of the Canadian West Coast trade gateway could push carriers to discharge import cargo along the already strained U.S. West Coast, said Alan Baer, CEO of OL USA, further increasing the dwell time of containers and elongating overall transits.

Two years later, Vaccarella's company brought in more than $1 million in annual sales, she recently told Entrepreneur, and she quit her job to run Bogg Bag full time. But now the organization is turning its attention (and its rats’ noses) to the global illegal wildlife trade. “Unfortunately, organized crime knows there’s a real weak spot in detection methods of ports, seaports and airports, particularly in Africa.”Traffickers disguise wildlife products in a whole host of ways, he explains. This is particularly important given that much of the illicit wildlife trade comes from some of the world’s poorest regions. “I’m hopeful that (using rats) for detecting wildlife will be a low cost, low impact, low footprint operation,” says Allan. The illegal wildlife trade not only impacts populations of the trafficked animal or plant, it can have devastating knock-on consequences for whole ecosystems.

The EU and China have reportedly agreed to start talks on the planned imposition of tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. China's commerce ministry said it "does not accept" tariffs imposed by the European Union on Chinese electric vehicles, after the bloc increased tariffs on Chinese EVs to as high as 45.3% on Wednesday. The commerce ministry said "China will continue to take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies." China's commerce ministry also highlighted the EU has indicated it will continue to negotiate with China, adding that both sides are conducting a new round of consultations.
