AdvertisementI first went to law school in Mexico, where people were more open to friendships. However, the top three global financial hubs (New York, London, and Singapore) belong to common law countries. The US has a common law system, meaning that laws come from uncodified case law resulting from court decisions. Law schools in Mexico take a more theoretical approach, while law schools in the US focus on the practical side. In my case, both law schools made sure we acknowledged this in order to understand how useful we can be.

I had recently watched "A Beautiful Mind," the story of mathematician John Nash, who was a brilliant man with schizophrenia. I watched the college students, wanting to be them so badly. Connecting with other college students who had hallucinations made me realize that my experience wasn't isolated. I took art and psychology classes, and then I applied to become an official student in the general studies program.

In a Monday interview with CNBC's Jim Cramer, Columbia Sportswear CEO Tim Boyle detailed his company's most recent quarter, which saw sales decline in the U.S."For our company, this is always the smallest quarter of the year, so any particular issue can get modified and accelerated," Boyle said. Columbia posted earnings last week, which saw U.S. sales decline 15% year over year, which the company said was primarily driven by the a decrease in U.S. wholesale. On the conference call, Boyle said Columbia was "working to maximize sales in a challenging U.S. marketplace, characterized by slow consumer demand and cautious retailers." Boyle also said many of Columbia's brands that saw declines this quarter — like SOREL and PrAna — are on their way to growth. British Columbia is Canada's second-most-visited province for a reason. Johnstone Strait, a glacier-carved channel between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island, is especially beautiful — and you might even see a humpback whale in the water if you visit at the right time. One of my favorite experiences on the province's Vancouver Island is kayaking around the shores in the morning. I watched Steller sea lions glide through the water, and a river otter play on a nearby dock. Once you're done with the water, venture along to visit some of the nearby picturesque communities like Telegraph Cove and Hanson Islands.
