Salesforce will hire 2,000 people to sell artificial intelligence software to clients, CEO Marc Benioff said on Tuesday, double the number the company indicated it was planning to add a month ago. "We're adding another couple of thousand salespeople to help sell these products," Benioff said at a company event in San Francisco. Last month, Benioff told Bloomberg that it planned to hire 1,000 salespeople focusing on AI. Salesforce is ramping up its AI sales team almost two years after announcing it was laying off more than 7,000 employees to better reflect economic conditions. Benioff said Salesforce's homepage now features an experimental AI agent that can respond to user queries about the company's products.

AdvertisementSalesforce's CEO says the company isn't spending as lavishly on AI as some of its tech peers — and he isn't worried about falling behind. Instead, Marc Benioff says the company will capitalize on the vast AI spending gap between it and some of its competitors and avoid a "race to the bottom." Benioff said some of Salesforce's competitors were "excessive" with their AI spending and "it's becoming a race to the bottom for some of these companies." He also highlighted that some have invested in nuclear energy and nuclear power plants.

ChatGPT is gaining on Google in the lucrative online search market, according to new data released this week. Google still dominates the search market, but its share slipped. This new technology is changing how millions of people access digital information, sparking a rare debate about the sustainability of Google's search dominance. This suggests Google's market share slippage is probably more about queries for general information, meaning Google's revenue growth from search is probably safe for now.
