At least 1,017 out LGBTQ candidates ran for election this year, a 1.1% increase compared with 2020, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, a political organization that tracks and supports LGBTQ candidates for elected office. The LGBTQ+ Victory Fund endorsed and tracked 477 of the LGBTQ candidates who made it to the general election. As of Friday afternoon, about three-quarters of those races had been called, with LGBTQ candidates having a success rate of approximately 80%. LGBTQ candidates won elections to at least 37 state legislatures this year, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, and several were historic firsts. “Having LGBTQ+ candidates in the halls of power will be paramount in helping to protect and uphold pro-equality values,” Meloy said.

CNN —For the first time in its 147-year history, Wimbledon will be removing line judges from all of its courts during the tournament. The All England Club announced on Wednesday that from the 2025 championships onwards, electronic line calling (ELC) will be used after it was successfully tested in 2024. ELC will replace the line judges who call “out” or “fault” during a match and will also be used in Wimbledon qualifying ahead of the tournament. Wimbledon successfully trialed the technology at this year's championships. Wimbledon’s adoption of the technology leaves the clay-court French Open as the only remaining grand slam yet to implement ELC.

CNN —US tennis star Coco Gauff stormed to victory in the China Open final on Sunday, sweeping past Karolina Muchová 6-1 6-3. The straight-sets victory makes the 20-year-old the first American to win the tournament since Serena Williams back in 2013 – she now has eight WTA titles to her name. Gauff also made WTA history in the process, becoming the first woman to win her first seven hard-court finals in the Open era. When Disney announced last year that it planned to spend $60 billion over the next decade to expand its theme park and cruise businesses, double the amount spent over the previous decade, the company’s stock price instantly dropped. Disney fans were excited for a hot second — and then they too started to demand answers, venting on social media about feeling baited.
