Mahmoud Bassam/Anadolu/Getty ImagesThe overnight strike on a humanitarian safe zone in Gaza that killed 40 Palestinians comes just hours after children across the strip should have been returning to school on Monday.
It is not yet clear how many of those killed in the strike are children, but “entire families have disappeared in the sand,” Gaza’s Civil Defense spokesperson, Mahmoud Bassal said.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it struck the facility to eliminate Hamas terrorists who were operating from within the humanitarian zone.
