Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said Thursday he will seek resentencing for Lyle and Erik Menendez in their parents' murders, paving the way for their potential release from prison after decades. Defense attorneys also provided evidence that one of the members of the Menudo boy band alleged he was sexually abused by José Menendez, Gascón said. Lyle and Erik Menendez alleged sexual abuse by their father at their first trial. Lyle Menendez is now 56, and Erik Menendez is 53. “Erik and Lyle Menendez’ motive was pure greed,” Cady wrote in the letter, which was sent Oct. 14.

Harvey Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction was overturned Thursday in New York, making way for a new trial. The court called the errors "egregious" and ordered a new trial, meaning his accusers could again be called to testify. "This Court has continued a disturbing trend of overturning juries' guilty verdicts in cases involving sexual violence," Singas wrote. Apu Gomes/Pool via REUTERSLOS ANGELES, Feb 22 (Reuters) - A California man was sentenced on Wednesday to at least 60 years in prison for the 2019 killing of Grammy-winning rapper Nipsey Hussle after a chance encounter in the south Los Angeles neighborhood where the men grew up. A jury had found Eric Holder Jr, 32, guilty of first-degree murder in July 2022 for fatally shooting Hussle outside a clothing store the rapper owned. Holder was ordered to serve an additional 10 years in prison for shooting two bystanders. Public defender Aaron Jansen acknowledged that Holder killed Hussle but argued that he should not be convicted of first-degree murder because he said the attack was not pre-meditated. David McNew/Pool via REUTERSLOS ANGELES, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Porn star Ron Jeremy was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial in Los Angeles on rape and other sex charges involving 21 women, City News Service reported on Tuesday. Jeremy, 69, pleaded not guilty in August 2021 to more than 30 counts of sexual assault, including 12 of rape, in the Los Angeles area over a 23-year period. Goldfarb and a representative for the Los Angeles District Attorney's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters on Tuesday. A hearing on whether to place Jeremy in a state hospital will be held next month, the Associated Press said. The alleged offenses took place at night clubs and bars in the Los Angeles area, during a photo shoot, and at Jeremy's home, the District Attorney's office said.
