Why some parents buy guns for their children

“Call it, I guess, a rite of passage.”That purchase reflects a relatively common American experience: Parents buying and gifting guns to their children for their birthday or around the holiday season. For example, the teenage school shooting suspects in Oxford, Michigan, and Winder, Georgia, allegedly used firearms they had received as Christmas gifts from their parents, and those parents have faced criminal charges. Jason Kelvie (right) and his family went target shooting last August at the Modern Sportsman in Burnsville, Minnesota. The Michigan and Georgia cases have pushed the limits of who is responsible for a mass school shooting to include, potentially, the parent. “The vast majority of people who buy guns for their kids or teach their children to shoot are not going to end up in a negative outcome like that,” Gutowski, the CNN contributor, said.

Recounting the same anecdote he’d told Snow, he told Medley he’d once lost a young patient to cervical cancer and needed to do another exam to keep her safe. But again, women like Medley, Snow and Pratt describe feeling belittled or dismissed. After watching a documentary about the gymnasts abused by then-team doctor Larry Nassar, Medley, Pratt and Snow launched a civil suit against Farley. Their lawsuit has been amended multiple times to add women, girls, men and boys who say they too were abused by Farley.

The Greater Idaho movement seeks to redraw state boundaries so rural Oregon can join Idaho. Moving the state boundary would require the approval of Oregon, Idaho, and the US Congress. Matt McCaw, a spokeperson for the group behind the Greater Idaho movement, told Insider they were confident the bill would pass Idaho's Senate in the coming weeks as well. McCaw said the Greater Idaho proposal would be a solution to the "longstanding problem" of the urban-rural divide. Proponents of Greater Idaho have said their plan is a way to avoid conflict, but it's unclear the impact moving the border would actually have.
