CNN —A Frontier Airlines flight seemed to catch fire as it made what officials described as a “hard landing” at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Saturday. Water from the malfunctioned sprinkler head “came in contact with a water reactive chemical and produced a plume,” county officials explained on their website. A fire broke out on the roof and firefighters were able to contain the blaze, but the fire reignited hours later, Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett said in a video message posted on Facebook. CNN —A California medical facility is trying to contact about 300 people who were possibly exposed to measles after a child was treated for the contagious viral illness at a hospital in Sacramento last week, officials said. The child had returned from international travel and was evaluated March 5 at UC Davis Health’s emergency department between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. The hospital said it “has the situation under control” and noted it began contacting about 300 in the facility who may have been exposed. Measles often begins with a mild to moderate fever, along with a cough, runny nose, and red/watery eyes, health officials detailed. A total of 45 measles cases have been reported in 17 states since the beginning of the year, according to the CDC.

CNN —Blizzard conditions continued to slam Northern California over the weekend with damaging winds and heavy snow dumping on mountain ridges down to the valleys. The most extreme conditions are unfolding at the highest elevations in the mountains, with whiteout conditions and hurricane-force winds. The weather service has warned of “high to extreme” avalanche danger through Sunday afternoon in the Central Sierra and Greater Lake Tahoe area. “Expect snowy conditions throughout the park,” park officials said. A blizzard warning remains in effect for the park area until 7 p.m. on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford, California.

CNN —Nearly the entire population of California remains under flood alerts as the rain-soaked state braces for more precipitation and officials urge people to try to stay off the roads early this week. Officials are concerned about “excessive runoff from moderate to heavy rain,” which may lead to flooding, according to a post from the city on X. The National Weather Service office in Sacramento implored residents to have a means to get weather alerts and said threats on Monday include: brief tornadoes, large amounts of small hail, heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds. The weather service said 3 to 5 feet of snow are possible where altitudes are 9,000 feet or above. With Monday a holiday, forecasters warning travelers of increased traffic, to prepare for longer commutes and possible delays.

CNN —Two police officers and a firefighter were fatally shot and another officer was injured after responding to a domestic incident early Sunday morning in Burnsville, Minnesota, according to local authorities. Burnsville city officials identified the three victims Sunday afternoon as officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, both 27, and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth, 40. “Minnesota mourns with you,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said during the news conference. My heart is with their families today and the entire State of Minnesota stands with Burnsville,” Walz said. He was part of the department’s crisis negotiations team and was also a physical evidence officer, officials said.
