But even with Trump’s gains among men, women still had greater leverage to decide the election’s outcome. Both the exit polls and VoteCast showed her winning 57% of white women with at least a four-year college degree. Solid majorities of Black, Latina and college-educated White women described Trump in the exit poll as “too extreme,” as did over two-fifths of the White women without a college degree. But among the White women without a college degree who described Trump as “too extreme,” almost 1 in 5 voted for him anyway. Though many women are expressing unease about mass deportation, Trump’s claim that immigrants are driving crime may provide him considerable leeway to pursue his agenda, particularly among the blue-collar White women who proved most receptive to that argument.

"I think [a C+ grade] would describe a rating where there is a lot of room for improvement," said Christine Mahoney, global retirement leader at Mercer, a consulting firm. 29 out of 48 global pension systems in 2024, according to the annual Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index , released Tuesday. The U.S. system is often referred to as a three-legged stool, consisting of Social Security, workplace retirement plans and individual savings. Employers aren't required to offer a retirement plan like a pension or 401(k) plan to workers. American workers can withdraw their 401(k) savings when they switch jobs, for example.

Those working-class White women loom as a critical, potentially even decisive, factor in Trump’s third White House bid. But while White women with a college degree have trended toward the Democrats in the presidential campaigns since then, the White women without a college degree have moved sharply in the opposite direction. She acknowledges that Trump’s alarms have resonated among working-class White women, especially older ones. Not only college-educated White women, but also the equivalent White men were much more likely than the blue-collar White women to express positive views about Harris and negative ones about Trump, Gallup found. “I think there is a lot of implicit [gender] bias with” these working-class White women, Lake said.

CNN —All signs suggest that the partisan divide over changing gender roles in society could widen even further in the 2024 election, adding a new source of uncertainty to a contest already on a knife’s edge. That was only the latest example of his campaign signaling its support for traditional gender roles. “The messaging on gender coming out of the campaign broadly is very much about reaffirming traditional roles for women and for men,” Cassese said. In PRRI polling this year, nearly half of Republicans agreed with two absolutist statements about gender roles. His problem is that most voters outside the core GOP coalition are generally comfortable with the changes in gender roles and family dynamics since the “Father Knows Best” era in the 1950s.

The tech is helping mental-health providers treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. In the face of this staggering prevalence, virtual reality offers transformative solutions in mental-health treatment and care. He uses FireflyVR's platform, The Sanctuary, a clinically designed VR experience that uses cognitive-behavioral therapy to reduce patients' anxiety before they undergo ketamine therapy. VR cue exposure, Siegfried said, helps reduce binge-eating habits by exposing people to triggering stimuli in a controlled environment. Both cue exposure and embodiment aim to address the complex psychological dynamics of eating disorders.

The fusion of human ingenuity and machine intelligence is offering an innovative approach to personalized mental-health care. They can also use AI to assess the quality of their services and find ways to improve as providers of mental-health care. As technology becomes more involved in mental-health care, ensuring data security, confidentiality, and equitable access to services must be top priorities. How an AI platform is helping mental-health-care providers improve their servicesThe AI platform Lyssn is another tech-driven tool for mental-health services. Lyssn aims to hold providers accountable for improved care, especially because "the quality of mental-health care is highly variable," Imel said.

Companies are using drones and special software to plant trees and overcome reforestation pain points. Robotics making reforestation more efficientThe tech-driven company Mast Reforestation uses drones and biotechnology to help landowners restore forestland after wildfires. Another company using robotics to plant trees is Flash Forest, which employs automated drones to restore burn sites and other damaged forest areas. To combat this issue, Mast Reforestation uses its custom-built software as a seed-inventory and seed-collection logistics platform. The software helped Mast Reforestation collect enough seeds last year to reforest about 2,100 acres on Sheep Creek Ranch in Montana.

Possible that said couture show is not an invitation-only affair with gold ballroom chairs and the latest celebrity du jour, but rather one open to the public. “Iris Van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses,” a one-woman exhibition that opened at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in late November and scheduled to run through April 28. Five years in the making, “Sculpting the Senses” crystallizes why Ms. Van Herpen, 39, is the youngest female designer to be granted a solo show at the museum in its 140 years of existence. And why, more than a decade after being invited to join the ranks of Paris’s couturiers, Ms. Van Herpen has also been made a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, an honor presented by the French Ministry of Culture. “She has managed to create a unique world, somewhere between fairy tale and science fiction,” said Christine Macel, director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Kirkland Signature tilapia pairs well with miso. I marinate my Kirkland Signature tilapia in miso and mirin. Christine Ma-KellamsIf I don't have the time or money to order Nobu's black cod with miso, I make the next best thing: three-ingredient miso-glazed tilapia. I spread equal parts miso paste and mirin over Kirkland Signature tilapia filets, marinate them overnight, and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. A $20 eight-pack of filets, typically around 3 pounds, is enough for at least two meals for my family of four.

A public memorial honors the people who died in the Lahaina, Hawaii, wildfire this summer. Photo: Mario Tama/Getty ImagesAfter Kimberly Buen learned her elderly father was killed in the August fire that burned the historic Hawaiian town of Lahaina to the ground, she needed to know who was ultimately responsible. Buen diligently listened to news conferences about how the deadly fire sparked. She read about the highly flammable grasses that blanketed nearby property. Buen, who lives in Palmdale, Calif., also retained an attorney to prepare a wrongful-death lawsuit against Hawaiian Electric, Maui County, the state of Hawaii and Kamehameha Schools, a local landowner, who she said needed to be held accountable for their roles in the fire.

Photo: Christine Mai-Duc/The Wall Street JournalOAKLAND, Calif.—The worldwide debate over the war between Israel and Hamas caused a local school-board meeting to shut down here Wednesday night. More than 150 people packed an auditorium at Oakland’s La Escuelita Elementary School in anticipation of a resolution that one board member planned to introduce calling for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. Many attendees wore the green, red, black and white colors of the Palestinian flag and carried signs demanding “Ceasefire Now!” and criticizing Israel’s bombing campaign.

Today, these dynamic food trucks serve up gourmet delights and cater events, fueled by convenience and social media-driven connection. While the most apparent technology food-truck owners use is front-end POS systems, back-end technology is also essential. Food-truck owners face the challenge of frequent menu updates, often requiring them to recreate signage or hire someone for the task. This helps food-truck owners make informed decisions related to parking and operating hours, which significantly influences their sales performance. In fact, a 2022 study published by Elsevier found that location was a key challenge for food-truck owners, as it affected customer targeting, exposure, and financial sustainability.
