For the first time, wind and solar generated more of the European Union's electricity than fossil fuels during the first half of the year. Wind and solar accounted for an all-time high of 30% of the region's energy needs, according to an analysis by the think tank Ember . In a separate report , Ember forecasted a global LNG supply glut by 2026 and a substantial drop in EU gas demand by 2030. But the rush to increase LNG exports from places like the US ignores the reality of rapidly declining gas demand in Europe, she added. Ember's report said that while it's unclear how swiftly fossil-fuel use will drop across Europe, a pipeline of solar and wind projects suggests this tipping point could be permanent.

‘America Is Under Attack’: Inside the Anti-D.E.I. “In support of ridding schools of C.R.T., the Right argues that we want nonpolitical education,” Mr. Klingenstein wrote in August 2021. In a 2023 exchange, Dr. Yenor and two associates discussed how to defend Amy Wax, a conservative law professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Yenor and his allies bristled at the conventions of academic life as overly solicitous toward female and nonwhite students. Samuel Ginn, Claremont donor“The president then told him, ‘Things will change,’” a Claremont fund-raiser wrote to Dr. Yenor and other officials there.

Support for the autoworkers fell short of the 55% support for striking Hollywood writers and actors in an AP-NORC poll conducted last month. In the new AP-NORC survey, 51% say labor unions help U.S. workers while only 15% say they hurt working people. About one-third say unions help the U.S. economy, while 22% say they damage the economy. That’s better for the consumers.”The United Auto Workers went on strike Sept. 15 against Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, which owns the Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands. That's a fear held by some auto workers who maintain that EVs require fewer people to build.

Shopping platform Rakuten plans to return as a Super Bowl advertiser in February to highlight how it can help consumers save money shopping during an uncertain economic time. The company, a U.S.-based division of Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten Group Inc., earlier this year made its first appearance as a Super Bowl advertiser to raise its awareness with U.S. customers. Super Bowl LVII will air Feb. 12, 2023, on Fox. Fox said in September that 95% of its Super Bowl ad inventory had been sold. “A Super Bowl ad may seem incongruent with layoffs or declining general health of the business or category.”Marketers more broadly are responding to inflation by emphasizing the value of their brands, whether by pushing lower prices or by showing how their products last longer.
The boost in renewables comes as Europe tries to wean itself off Russian gas, as Moscow reduces, even cuts off, European nations’ energy supplies to gain leverage in the conflict. Wind and solar energy accounted for a quarter of EU electricity since the start of the war. Chris Ratcliffe/Bloomberg/Getty ImagesNineteen of the EU’s 27 member states have achieved record wind and solar generation since March, the report found. Fossil gas still made up around 20% of the EU’s electricity in the same period, at a cost of around €82 billion ($80.7 billion). The report’s key message is simply: “More renewables, less inflation.”Nonetheless, European energy prices are still high.
Many of these claims are now viewed through the prism of ESG, or environmental, social and governance. But here's the rub: Definitions of ESG often vary and are hard to pin down. Over in the United States, scrutiny of claims about sustainability and ESG is also taking place. When contacted by CNBC, Vale — which has an "ESG Portal" on its website — referred to a statement issued on April 28. The debate surrounding greenwashing is becoming increasingly fierce, with the charge often leveled at multinational companies with vast resources and significant carbon footprints.
