Tech stocks may have had a volatile past few weeks , but one chief investment officer is still bullish. The chief investment officer believes Nvidia's stock is "reasonably valued," based on its two to three-year outlook. "We've been doing that, and we've been pretty happy with the price we've been getting," he added. Broadcom shares fell 7% in extended trading following its results announcement, but remain up close to 47.5% year-to-date. Wall Street appears to have given Nvidia a mulligan. A number of positive headlines around AI demand have lifted Nvidia and other stocks that benefit from the adoption of the buzzy tech. "There's kind of a do-over in terms of what happened with [CEO Jensen Huang], what happened with Nvidia," Cramer said on "Squawk on the Street," referring to the response to its much-ballyhooed earnings report Aug. 28 . The Investing Club also has a stake in Broadcom, which like Nvidia had been punished after its recent earnings report. Advanced Micro Devices , another AI chipmaker, and Eaton , which makes electrical equipment used in the expanding data center market, have added about 13% and 7%, respectively, this week.

Once-obscure chipmaker Broadcom has enjoyed a record-setting rally that's pushed its market capitalization inches behind Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate and its portfolio of household names and economic bellwethers. When Broadcom hit an all-time high earlier this week, its market capitalization briefly surpassed drug maker Eli Lilly's. As of Tuesday's close, Broadcom had a market cap of $839 billion, right behind Eli Lilly's $845 billion and Berkshire's $882 billion. Omaha-based Berkshire is currently No.7 in market value, after a cluster of megacap technology giants. Big AI beneficiary Broadcom, meanwhile, is seeing strong demand from customers in need of high-capacity chips that can power complex AI applications.

Nvidia stock has climbed 174% in 2024, as the AI boom continues to boost equities. The stock market was closed Wednesday for the Juneteenth holiday. S&P 500 futures were little changed on Wednesday as investors look for the benchmark to add to its latest record high. Nvidia already surpassed Apple by market cap earlier in June, and has cemented its place as the de facto market leader at the helm of the roaring AI theme on Wall Street. After a big week for stocks related to artificial intelligence, CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors it may be time to ring the register for many of these companies that have seen massive gains. "Remember, this remarkable, albeit limited, narrow, year — you don't want to spoil it by refusing to ring the register on every one of your stocks that may be AI." Cramer reviewed the significant surges in the AI sector this week, starting with Apple's record-breaking run after the company announced new AI programming that could boost iPhone sales. "We know we've been feeling a little greedy, and it's quite unbecoming — when you have big gains, you need to take something off the table," Cramer said. "I am still a true believer in Nvidia, but I don't want to be oblivious to the scale of this massive run."

Generative AI Neural networks are the heart of the increasingly popular type of AI known as generative artificial intelligence , or gen AI for short. Both traditional AI and gen AI systems rely on data and can be used to automate decision-making tasks. Microsoft's AI virtual assistant Copilot — which went live in November — is perhaps the most prominent generative AI feature among our portfolio companies. Bias Bias is another downside to AI systems — and LLMs in particular — that users need to consider. While GPUs have the upper hand in AI training, CPUs are understood to perform AI inference well.

VMware (VMW) on Thursday jumped roughly 4% on reports that Broadcom's (AVGO) acquisition of the cloud and virtual machine company is likely to be approved by China shortly. China's State Administration for Market Regulation is expected to be granted conditional antitrust approval soon, according to trade publication Dealreporter. Nvidia can't stop stunning Wall Street and the investing community in 2023, but portfolio managers say don't let the excitement overshadow other potential AI winners. "Theme after theme, transition after transition, the strong usually gets stronger," said Paul Meeks, portfolio manager at Independent Solutions Wealth Management. Some retail and professional investors seemed to interpret the news as a sign that it's "game over" for some of the other AI chipmakers, Forrest said. Forrest, who's on the hunt for growth at a reasonable price, points to companies like Advanced Micro Devices, Micron Technology . On the AI chip theme, Meeks also points to Broadcom , Marvell Technology and Taiwan Semiconductor , a major supplier for Nvidia, as other ways to play the trend.
