A family’s set of dishes has passed through five generations of women, but will the teacups, plates and bowls make it to a sixth? The bowl, specifically used to serve berries, is part of a set of fine china that has been in her family for over a century. For over a century, this set of fine china has been handed down from woman to woman in the same family. Of all the pieces that were eventually broken in the china set, the teacup has the most delicate seal. A correction was made on Jan. 1, 2025: An earlier version of this article incorrectly named the first woman to own the china set as Gertrude.

Last month, Raimondo vowed to go forward with the visit despite the reported Chinese hacking of her department's emails. The talks would cover issues related to the U.S.- China commercial relationship, challenges faced by U.S. businesses, and areas for potential cooperation, it added. Last week, China said it welcomed Raimondo's expected visit. Her trip follows a four-day visit last month by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who held more than 10 hours of meetings with senior officials in Beijing.

The Pentagon said it believed in open communication "to ensure that competition does not veer into conflict." Last week, White House spokesman John Kirby said there were discussions by the Defense Department to get talks going between Lloyd Austin and his Chinese counterpart, who was named defense minister in March. Li is a member of the Central Military Commission, China's top defense body that is commanded by President Xi Jinping.
