New York CNN —No more soup for the Campbell’s company. The 155-year-old Campbell Soup Company plans to drop “soup” from its corporate name, rebranding as The Campbell’s Company. In addition to its lineup of soups, Campbell now owns snack brands like Goldfish, Snyder’s of Hanover, Cape Cod, Pepperidge Farm and others. Campbell also recently bought Sovos Brands, maker of popular Italian food brands like Rao’s sauces. Although soup is an important part of Campbell’s business, it’s now a smaller portion of its sales.

Family-owned candy giant Mars, whose brands include M&M's and Snickers, said on Wednesday it would buy Cheez-It and Pringles maker Kellanova in a nearly $36 billion deal, making it the biggest deal in the packaged food industry. Mars will pay $83.50 per share in an all-cash deal for Kellanova, representing about a 33% premium to Kellanova's close on Aug. 2, before Reuters first reported that Mars was exploring a deal for the Pringles maker. Kellanova, which split from WK Kellogg last October, is rooted in a salty snacks business and sells cereal outside of North America. WK Kellogg was left with the North American cereal business of Kellogg, the original parent company. Kellanova logged net sales of more than $13 billion in 2023.

PayPal : Shares tumbled 10% Thursday after the financial technology company issued earnings guidance that came up short of Wall Street expectations. PayPal is in the midst of a turnaround plan, but it appears the progress may come slower than expected, Jim Cramer said Thursday. Arm Holdings : Shares surged more than 55% following a better-than-expected December quarter and strong sales and profit guidance for its current three-month period. The rise of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs from Eli Lilly , a longtime Investing Club holding, and Novo Nordisk remains something to watch for food companies like Kellanova, Jim said. "If you really do believe GLP-1s are going to be universal, then there will be less of their product bought," Jim said.

The use of Eli Lilly 's Mounjaro for weight loss can pull shoppers away from the snack aisle — though the transition will likely be gradual, according to Morgan Stanley. Kaufman noted a six-week study presented at ObesityWeek that showed users of Mounjaro cut calories and weight at a faster clip. The study also produced evidence that medication takers had a "significant reduction in food consumption," as well as fewer cravings for sweets and fast food fats. And while taking Mounjaro reduced food cravings overall, it had a particular impact on sweets, the study found. All four of the snack makers Kaufman said to watch have lost share value in 2023.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday gave his take on Kellogg's decision to split into two separate companies, saying investors may want to wait and see how these stories play out before thinking about buying. Kellogg's two businesses are now cereal-focused WK Kellogg and snack-focused Kellanova . "Maybe someday Kellanova will be worth circling back to, but in a world where snack food stocks have gotten the cold shoulder, I don't think we're there yet." Before the split, which was announced last year, snacks accounted for 80% of Kellogg's net sales in 2021. "You've really got to stick your neck out to buy Kellanova or WK Kellogg at these levels, and I don't think they're giving you much reason to take the risk," Cramer said.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — It’s been 15 years since the world’s elite gas balloon pilots have gathered in the United States for a race with roots that stretch back more than a century. Their ballooning résumé includes four wins in the America's Challenge long-distance gas balloon race, and third- and fourth-place finishes in previous Gordon Bennett competitions.
