Austin, the state capital of Texas, can add another title to its name: best college town in the U.S., according to a recent ranking by WalletHub. The city is home to a number of schools, including the University of Texas at Austin, which is one of the largest research universities in the U.S. and has a student population of over 51,000. The city itself is located in central Texas and home to nearly 980,000 people, with a median household income of $86,556, per the latest available U.S. Census data. To generate its list of best college towns, WalletHub used data from a number of sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, to analyze 415 cities and towns of various sizes across America. Plus, the cities tend to come with a lower cost of living than larger cities like New York or Los Angeles.

At least 11 people were injured and around 100 homes were damaged as a result of a weekend of severe weather. On Monday, that same weather system will bring more thunderstorms, damaging winds, large hail and possibly tornadoes to the south-central U.S., according to the National Weather Service. Around 17 million people who live in the area spanning from central Texas to northern Missouri are at risk of experiencing this severe weather. The Central Texas television station KCEN team mourned one of their own live on-air Oct. 30 and announced the death of co-anchor Kris Radcliffe. Co-anchor Lindsay Liepman of KCEN, an NBC affiliate in Temple, Texas, became visibly emotional as she shared during the Wednesday newscast that Radcliffe “died unexpectedly.” He was 51. She reminisced about their time off-screen and extended her condolences to his family, including Radcliffe’s wife, daughters and grandchildren, as well as his sister. She continued by saying Radcliffe’s death “is a true loss for our community.” He was then honored with a video montage about his life and mentorship at the news station. He then became the morning anchor for Texas Today, where he held the position for nine years before transitioning into the evening anchor role.

My girlfriends, a year or two older, were most interested in catching the eye of the male lifeguards. The swim disparities also influenced the scope of a lifeguard's job. While the lack of qualified lifeguards may partly stem from this problem, getting more lifeguards on stands could turn things around. As we enter our fourth year without enough lifeguards, it's hard to imagine them retaking the podium as the cultural idol of American summer. At least 68 million people were under severe weather warnings on Memorial Day, as storms turned toward the Northeast after claiming the lives of at least 19 people and leaving half a million homes and businesses without power across the central United States. Some emergency phones lines had been damaged and were not operational, Kentucky State Police said, according to NBC affiliate WNKY of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Monday's weather warnings come after a torrid night across southern states and in the Great Plains. TAYLOR, Texas — The Commerce Department is on track to dole out all of the $39 billion in grant money allocated under the CHIPS Act by year-end, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told CNBC on Monday. The Commerce Department is providing the money to semiconductor companies to incentivize them to build out manufacturing production capabilities in the U.S. "I expect all of the money in the CHIPS Act will be allocated by the end of this year." The funding from the 2022 Chips and Science Act will support two chip production facilities, a research center and a packaging facility, in Taylor, Texas, the agency said, as previously reported by Reuters. CNN —Angela Chao, CEO of shipping company Foremost Group and sister of former US cabinet secretary Elaine Chao, died after her car became submerged in a pond on a Central Texas ranch last month, according to the Wall Street Journal and a report from Blanco County Emergency Services obtained by the Austin American-Statesman. Chao’s Tesla Model X SUV went over an embankment and into a pond when she put the car in reverse instead of drive during a three-point turn shortly before midnight on February 10, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to the Wall Street Journal, a longer cable was eventually garnered, and the car was pulled from the pond. First responders soon retrieved Chao from her vehicle and began resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful, according to the Wall Street Journal. Neither the Blanco County Emergency Services, Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, nor Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office have responded to CNN’s request for comment and additional information.

New York CNN —Flight cancellations across the country continue to cause headaches for thousands of travelers, and Southwest is topping the list of most-affected airlines for the second consecutive day. Saturday and Sunday saw more than 16,500 flights delays and nearly 3,000 cancellations across the United States, according to FlightAware. The Federal Aviation Administration instated the order after a piece of the fuselage blew off an Alaska Airlines flight on January 5 with 177 people on board. United has canceled nearly 13% of its flights, making it the second most affected airline behind Southwest, which doesn’t fly any Max 9 planes. Alaska Airlines experienced the third-highest rate of cancellations on Sunday, having called off about 15% of its total flights.
