Soon, Trump’s ability to fix America’s affordability crisis will collide head-on with another, perhaps more prominent, campaign trail promise: Mass deportations. And perhaps no industry relies on undocumented workers more than the food and agriculture industries. “The only question is how high prices will go.”Zandi noted that food prices could also be pushed higher by another element of the Trump agenda: Massive tariffs. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment about how mass deportations would impact food prices. The current immigration system does not allow for green cards for farm workers.

To lower housing costs, Trump has said he would allow homes to be built on federally protected land, something that could help increase the supply of homes in places like Nevada and Arizona. TaxesTrump has proposed a number of tax cuts, including a complete elimination of the federal income tax. Those cuts lowered the corporate tax rate to 21% from 35%, reduced individual income tax rates, and increased the standard deduction. That could create havoc for workers and consumers and reduce the amount of income taxes the federal government brings in. About 40% of Social Security recipients pay federal income taxes, typically because they have other sources of income that raise them above a certain threshold where they are required to pay income tax, according to the Social Security Administration.

He sat down with BI to talk about the race, the national debt, abortion, and the state of his party. In an era where college-educated voters have been bleeding out of the GOP, Schweikert is increasingly an outlier, and he knows it. In order to keep looking like his district, Schweikert — a one-time conservative rabble-rouser who rode his way into Congress during the 2010 Tea Party wave — has had to make some changes. But now that Schweikert's sharing the ballot with Trump, he's not sweating that either. CNN —The Biden administration won’t extend legal permissions for certain migrants from Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela and Haiti provided through a temporary humanitarian program designed to curb illegal border crossings, requiring them to seek other legal means to remain in the United States, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The program required that these migrants have a sponsor in the US, undergo screening and vetting, and complete vaccinations. The program is still available to new applicants from the four countries, though the administration briefly paused it this summer over concerns about fraud. Homeland Security officials maintain the program was intended to be temporary, providing those who arrived the opportunity to apply for other legal status while in the United States. The administration didn’t guarantee the program would be extended, though it did allow re-parole for Ukrainians and Afghans under similar programs.

CNN —President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump, are set to make history on CNN Thursday night as they meet for their first 2024 debate. Thursday’s debate will be the earliest in the election cycle that a presidential debate featuring the major parties’ nominees has taken place in modern history. That’s why Trump’s advisers and allies have urged the former president to focus on issues like the economy, crime and inflation as he debates Biden. The Biden campaign knows all this, of course, so it will be interesting – and instructive – to hear his message and analyze where it’s being targeted. The Trump campaign distanced itself, in part, from the plan, noting that the advisers who wrote it are not on the payroll.

Trump first asked the audience if they had ever heard of Dana White, the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). From there, Trump boasted that he had told White: “Why don’t you set up a migrant league of fighters and have your regular league of fighters. Obviously, Trump’s point in his migrant UFC proposal was that despite the toughness of the professional UFC fighters, the migrants coming to America are actually stronger, tougher and more dangerous. That moment came when Trump told the audience that the UFC president didn’t like the migrant fight league idea, adding, “But actually, it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever had.”Trump is telling the truth there: Musing about a migrant fighting league is vile — but it’s not his worst idea. Trump proposing a dehumanizing physical battle between migrants who would then fight the UFC champions — which conjures up Roman gladiator matches — is simply more evidence of Trump’s depravity.
