Fulton County, meanwhile, has sued the board, objecting to the push to force it to use election deniers as monitors. “The State Election Board has no statutory authority to force the Fulton County BRE [Board of Registration and Elections] to accept, and Fulton County to pay for, election monitors hand-picked by the State Election Board,” the lawsuit states. But GOP members of the state-election board told CNN neither Germany nor the Carter Center should be allowed to be a monitor because of bias. Fellow election board Republican Janelle King alleged that Fulton County is operating in bad faith. Biden and first lady Dr. Jill Biden traveled to Plains, Georgia, to visit the Carters on the 100th day of Biden’s presidency in 2021. “We sat and talked about the old days,” Biden told reporters after the visit, calling the Carters “old friends.”

In February of 2023, President Carter entered home hospice care after several hospital stays over the years, following his cancer diagnosis in 2015. He and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died in November 2023 at 96 years old, kept each other going. On Sunday, the International Olympic Committee said that the appeal shouldn’t have been allowed, meaning she will have to return her third-place prize. In 2017, the Russian Olympic Committee said that none of the 18 athletes stripped of their medals because of doping violations had returned the physical awards. Several prominent Democratic figures are set to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this month, two sources familiar with the plans told NBC News. Twenty years later, in 1980, I watched my father, Ronald Reagan, debate Jimmy Carter. There was the moment when then President Carter decisively (but politely) criticized my father for his opposition to Medicare. There was a moment in the third debate when Mr. Bush was speaking and Mr. Gore crossed the stage and got way too close to his opponent.
