There’s not much that is relatable about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex: from her rise to British royal notoriety to her achingly aspirational lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. But on Saturday, a rare opportunity for connection presented itself when Meghan arrived at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala in a red Carolina Herrera dress she had previously worn in 2021. Her red tailored Carolina Herrera dress and tousled hair epitomizes a more easy going approach to evening wear (when compared to her life as a working royal, of course).

Its wearer, of course, was Ella Emhoff, Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter and potential next first daughter of the US. “She needs a dress and she wears it, and people will watch this event but it won’t really be about what she’s wearing. Emhoff's dress was inspired by tea parties, as Ando wanted to the portray the potential next first daughter as "a modern princess." Armed with a tiny mic, a bashful attitude and an impressive 2.9 million TikTok followers, Ando filmed himself approaching celebrities asking if he could make them a dress. Fragrances are one of the biggest affordable-luxury trends that have boomed in recent years, so Business Insider asked two professional perfumers what scents everyone should wear this summer. Tomato-leaf perfumes smell like a summer garden. Outwardly, this season’s New York Fashion Week shows followed a familiar playbook. The official schedule ran for six days (albeit with fewer events) and it played the hits: Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Tory Burch. All of this brought a calm to a week that can sometimes be anything but. That calm extended to the streets outside shows, which drew smaller crowds with a relaxed energy. Some seasons have so many shows or presentations that it’s hard to stop and breathe.

All Aboard the Most Extravagant Fashion Cruise

In 1964, John Cheever published a short story called “The Swimmer” in which a seemingly happy suburbanite endeavors to swim his way home across New York’s Westchester County, by going from one backyard pool to the next in an odyssey that reveals the truth of his world. It’s a scenario that sprang to mind during the last cruise (or resort) season, a monthlong series of extravaganzas in far-flung destinations that came to an end last week. It was not hard to imagine fashionistas hieing their way from show to show to show before finally returning home. They could have started in Los Angeles with Chanel on May 9, moved on to Seoul with Gucci, on to Mexico City for Dior, then to northern Italy for Louis Vuitton (which had confusingly held a separate pre-fall show in Seoul just a few weeks before) and Alberta Ferretti, ending in Rio de Janeiro on June 1 with Carolina Herrera. Many of them may have been treated to their trips by the brands themselves (The New York Times does not accept press trips, so yours truly watches the shows on the computer), caravanning around the globe as if the pandemic was a speck in the rearview mirror.

How Do I Upgrade My Carhartt Wardrobe?
  + stars: | 2023-05-15 | by ( Vanessa Friedman | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
Carhartt is my default. It should not be news to you, but if Carhartt is your default, you are way ahead of the game. Pushing your wardrobe boundaries is an effective, easy way to start to push all sorts of boundaries. Start with Carhartt itself, which figured out it could be fashionable back in 1989, 100 years after the company itself was founded, and started Carhartt W.I.P., the design-forward arm of the business. Wear your usual Carhartt workshirt on top, but let a pop of turquoise, emerald, yellow, red or pink show through.

REUTERS/Andrew KellyNEW YORK, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Carolina Herrera's signature ball gowns, elegant evening dresses and classic day looks filled the designer's sumptuous fall/winter collection at New York Fashion Week on Monday. Bright jewel tones, bold black and white stripes, and floral prints helped to tell creative director Wes Gordon's story of opulence at a Plaza Hotel ballroom. Tulle was used for complete looks as well as embellishment, along with lace, silks and hand embroidery. New York Fashion Week will feature over 70 shows through Wednesday.

Reports of Save America PAC paying Braillard first emerged in August 2022, showing at that time that the fund had paid the stylist $60,000 for "strategy consulting." The Federal Elections Commission does not allow PACs to spend money on personal items, but leadership PACs such as Save America PAC have fewer spending restrictions. Trump's Save America PAC was established in November 2020, just days after President Joe Biden's election victory, and has fundraised on the back of promoting voter fraud claims and supporting Trump's chosen candidates.

Ralph Lauren accused of plagiarizing indigenous Mexican designs
  + stars: | 2022-10-20 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
MEXICO CITY, 20 Oct (Reuters) - The wife of Mexico's president on Thursday accused luxury American clothes brand Ralph Lauren (RL.N) of plagiarizing indigenous designs, which she described as an appropriation of the work of the country's pre-Hispanic cultures. "Hey Ralph (Lauren): we already realized that you really like Mexican designs," writer and researcher Beatriz Gutierrez said in an Instagram post. "However, by copying these designs you are committing plagiarism, which is illegal and immoral." The post shows a photo of a coat with colorful indigenous motifs hanging in a store. "Hopefully you repair the damage to the original communities that do this work with love and not for profit," Gutierrez added, attributing the designs to the indigenous communities of Contla and Saltillo.
The cause was cancer, said Anthony Yurgaitis, his husband and business partner. Princess Diana wore them, as did Paloma Picasso, Anjelica Huston, the designer Carolina Herrera and virtually the entire staff of Vogue magazine. The company began in the early 1970s in a London boutique frequented by Bianca Jagger and other rock star adjacents. It was presided over, salon-style, by the exuberant Mr. Blahnik. A Manhattan store, opened in 1981, was an afterthought and losing money when Dawn Mello, then the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman, the New York department store, introduced Mr. Malkemus, one of her copy writers, to Mr. Blahnik.
