Were Trump to follow through on his vow to impose tariffs on imports on Europe as well as from China, they would likely deviate further. There is also uncertainty across the continent about what the new White House will mean for the war in Ukraine. In their view, China could help to pressure Russia over Ukraine as Xi loses patience with a war he did not expect would drag on for almost three years. One senior European diplomat said that while China has never explicitly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it has helped in other ways to rein in Moscow. continues to say that Ukraine will negotiate when Ukraine wants to negotiate,” another European official said, “and that the E.U.

Now we see it's very common for these store cards to charge over 30%." Just before the Fed began its rate-cutting cycle in September, many retailers and their bank partners raised interest rates on their store cards to protect their profits when the federal funds rate — which determines their own interest rates — came down. Now, the average interest rate on a store card is at an all-time high just ahead of the holiday shopping season, which is when most consumers sign up for store cards. That was less than half of the interest rate increase for store cards seen from September 2023 to September 2024, when the federal funds rate didn't budge. When asked why they increased the APR on their store cards, the companies that returned CNBC's request for comment pointed vaguely to industry standards and the current economic environment.

New York CNN —Truth Social, the social media platform owned by President-elect Donald Trump, appears to be exploring a move into the crypto space. Trump Media & Technology Group filed a trademark application earlier this week for TruthFi, which it described as a cryptocurrency payment processing platform. It’s not clear how far along Trump Media is in evaluating a crypto payment service or whether the Trump-owned public company will ultimately launch such a platform. The trademark application illustrates the thorny conflict-of-interest issues raised by Trump’s election victory and his sprawling business empire. The trademark application for a crypto payment service comes just days after the Financial Times reported that Trump Media is in advanced talks to acquire crypto trading platform Bakkt.

New Mastercard research shows affluent consumers enjoy optimizing their wallets with "financial gymnastics." While prioritizing experiences and legacy-building, affluent consumers don't accept anything less than the speediest and most convenient payment options. Those based in Asia Pacific tend to go even further, juggling approximately 7.5 payment methods. We see this every day in our work with banks across Asia Pacific: Affluent consumers are no longer motivated by simply accumulating assets. Reliable payment methods free up time that is better spent with loved ones or pursuing passions.

New research based on the findings, published in several papers Wednesday in Nature and its sister journals, represents a “leap in understanding of the human body,” according to the Human Cell Atlas consortium. Regev compared scientific knowledge of cell biology before the Human Cell Atlas initiative with a “15th century map.”“Now, years later, the resolution of the map is a lot higher,” she said. The cell atlas aims to fill in a missing link between genes, diseases and treatment therapies. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Human Cell Atlas community used the available data to reveal that the nose, eyes and mouth were most vulnerable to infection. “It was only clear through the Human Cell Atlas data that those cells were … entry points before the virus continued into the internal organs.

Nearly 40% of cardholders in the U.S. have maxed out a credit card or come close to doing so, according to Bankrate's October credit utilization survey. "Nothing good comes out of running up large balances on credit cards," says John Ulzheimer, a credit expert with over 20 years experience who formerly worked for FICO and Experian. It accounts for 30% of how your FICO credit score is calculated and is an "extremely influential" factor used to generate your VantageScore credit score. Maxing out your credit card can throw off your credit utilization ratio, thus harming your overall score. Why it's worth keeping your credit utilization lowThe credit scoring agencies didn't arbitrarily decide to make your credit utilization ratio an important part of your score, Ulzheimer says.

Delta Air Lines on Wednesday said sales would grow in 2025, citing a "resilient economy" for strong travel demand and credit card spending, especially for higher-end offerings. Delta forecast revenue growth in the mid-single digit percentage points next year compared with 2024, in line with the roughly 6% growth analysts were expecting. In an investor day presentation, the carrier said it would expand flying by 3% to 4% next year from 2024. Hauenstein said Delta is looking for new ways to segment its cabins after the carrier — and rivals — spent years breaking coach-class into options like premium economy, extra-legroom seats and basic economy. While it didn't provide detail, it's also considering more options for travelers sitting in the front of the plane too, Hauenstein said.

Target — Shares plunged more than 21% after the big-box retailer disappointed on third-quarter earnings and revenue estimates and cut its full-year guidance, just three months after raising that forecast. Target reported only a slight uptick in customer traffic as CEO Brian Cornell noted "lingering softness in discretionary categories." That is better than the $1.57 in earnings per share that analysts were expecting, per FactSet. Dolby earned 61 cents per share in its fiscal fourth quarter, higher than analysts' forecast of 45 cents per share, according to FactSet.
