Britain's financial regulator said on Monday it had fined Barclays 40 million pounds ($50.9 million) in total for its failure to disclose certain arrangements with Qatari entities in 2008. The fine by the Financial Conduct Authority dates back to the height of the 2008-9 financial crisis, when Barclays scrambled to raise funds from overseas investors including Qatar in order to avoid a state bailout. The FCA at the time fined Barclays 50 million pounds, which the bank appealed. The interests of the bank, its shareholders and other stakeholders were best served by the withdrawal, Barclays said, adding that there was no material financial impact from the fine.

Carrera, 60, is head of the fleet of the research vessels run by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, a government-funded science center under the umbrella of the Spanish National Research Council. The boat also helped research the impact from the lava flow that reached the sea from the 2021 La Palma volcano eruption in Spain’s Canary Islands. CNN —Authorities in the Spanish city of Malaga have posted billboards that aim to educate tourists on appropriate behavior during their visit, including one that reminds them to wear clothes. Now, city hall has launched a campaign that aims to cut down on some of the more visible examples of bad behavior. “Both on the street and in public places always wear an upper garment for respect and hygiene.”Another billboard from the campaign. The city is one of many in Spain and its islands that is pushing back against the impact of tourism. In May, there were further crackdowns on party boats and public drinking on the islands of Ibiza and Mallorca.
