In President-elect Trump, these ascendant insurgents across the pond see a key ally, someone who shares their mix of authoritarianism, populism and extreme hostility to immigration. “We have big plans for the future!” posted Hungary’s Prime Minister Vikor Orbán, an influential Trump friend and ally, calling it “a much needed victory for the World!”Orban visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida earlier this year. CNN —Parts of the Roman Catholic Church are still failing to ensure clerical sexual abuse is reported adequately, Pope Francis’ commission for child protection said Tuesday, raising concerns about a “lack of transparency” in the Vatican’s handling of cases. “At times, the commission found a troubling lack of reporting structures and victim/survivor accompaniment services,” the report said. “The commission found a persistent concern regarding the transparency in the Roman Curia’s (the church’s central administration) procedures and juridical processes. The commission notes that this will continue to foment distrust among the faithful, especially the victim/survivor community,” it added. Francis asked the commission two years ago to produce an annual report on child protection initiatives which he wanted to help bring “transparency and accountability” on abuse.

WASHINGTON — Kamala Harris is launching a seven-figure ad blitz about health care targeting Donald Trump’s calls to replace the Affordable Care Act with a mystery plan he hasn’t yet released. And the Harris campaign said it plans to follow it up with more health care-focused ads in the future. Asked when he will release his health care plan, the Trump campaign didn’t say. Health care was a major boon to Democrats in the 2018 and 2020 elections, according to exit polls, which said many voters prioritized health care and preferred Democrats over the GOP by wide margins. A recent Associated Press national survey found that voters trust Harris to handle health care over Trump by 50% to 30%.
