Brisbane, Australia CNN —A pilot who died when he crashed a helicopter into a hotel in Australia had “significant blood alcohol content” during the unauthorized flight, according to an official report into the incident. The pilot had been out with friends at various venues around Cairns and was seen consuming alcohol, according to witnesses and security camera footage, the report said. Cameras also caught the moment he positioned one of Nautilus Aviation’s Robinson R44 Raven II helicopters onto a helipad at Cairns Airport at around 1:30 a.m. local time. The report found they wouldn’t have seen a helicopter that was operating at night with no lights. It found the helicopter wasn’t upright when it hit the hotel, but there was also no sign of mechanical failure.

It disappeared from her sight for a few minutes, and she started walking home before spotting the helicopter flying back. She said the helicopter had passed over trees and another taller building before hitting the roof of the hotel. In a statement to CNN, DoubleTree by Hilton Cairns said all of its guests – 421 adults and 50 children, plus two staff – were safely evacuated. The bureau asked witnesses with any photos or videos of the helicopter to contact authorities through its website.

A plane was forced to turn round after fighting broke out on board, News.com.au reported. Fights allegedly broke out on an Australian domestic flight last week that ultimately led to the plane being turned round, a window getting smashed, and four passengers being charged, News.com.au reported. A spokesperson for the Australian Federal Police told News.com.au that the flight had to be turned around because of an "incident." Three passengers were arrested and charged when the plane landed on Groote Eylandt, the outlet reported. Though the flight was chartered by Groote Eylandt Mining Company, Insider understands that the passengers involved in the incident were members of the public.
