UK growth hinges on more than a new pension giant

Politicians and financiers think a consolidation of the country’s pension funds would breathe new life into its stocks, startups and infrastructure. Meanwhile, there is no doubt that UK defined-benefit pension funds, company-sponsored plans that promise a specific payment upon retirement, have moved away from UK equities. The proposals also entail creating a 100 billion pound pension fund, modelled on the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, a retirement giant with $536 billion assets under management. Overall, some 19% of these funds’ assets are in UK stocks, according to the Pensions Policy Institute. If UK assets can yield the risk-adjusted returns offered by other assets, pension funds will join in too.
March 13 (Reuters) - Qualtrics International Inc (XM.O) said on Monday it will go private after the customer survey software maker's controlling shareholder, SAP SE (SAPG.DE), accepted a $12.5 billion bid from an investor consortium led by Silver Lake and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). SAP agreed to the consortium's $18.15-per-share offer for Qualtrics, saying it would get about $7.7 billion for its stake. Qualtrics said earlier this month it would negotiate on an exclusive basis with Silver Lake and CPPIB until March 15 to see whether a deal could be finalized. Silver Lake Partners currently holds a 13.94% stake in Qualtrics. In 2018, SAP bought Qualtrics for $8 billion and three years later listed it in New York.

They have gained 8.8% since the start of February when Silver Lake first expressed its interest in Qualtrics. Qualtrics and Silver Lake have entered into an exclusivity agreement for the deal talks, which ends on March 15. Silver Lake already holds a near 4.2% stake in Qualtrics.

TORONTO, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Canada’s Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) aims to more than double the C$1 billion ($749 million) value of sustainable bond issuance by 2026, an official at the pension fund told Reuters on Thursday. The pension scheme, which manages C$230.5 billion in assets, issued its first-ever green bond in February this year as part of its goal to reach net-zero emissions. Several other pensions including Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP), Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), have also issued green bonds. Neither OTPP, CPPIB nor Caisse have set targets for green bond issuance. PSP, Canada's fifth-largest pension investment manager, also increased its exposure to green assets by C$6.12 billion to C$46.5 billion in 2022, it said in a report released on Thursday.
