I'm not interested in Mars," Gwynne Shotwell, the SpaceX president and COO told Baron Capital founder Ron Baron at his firm's annual investment conference last week. "I don't like camping, and I think it will be a long time before Mars is nice enough — probably not in my lifetime." Nevertheless, like her boss, Shotwell's visions for SpaceX remain stratospheric: accessible space travel for all, global proliferation for satellite internet, and yes, eventually, interplanetary travel and living. SpaceX, unlike Tesla, is not traded as a public stock, and is therefore not required to post financial results. But Baron assured his investors — who can own SpaceX exposure through some of the firm's mutual funds — it has been a profitable play.

An "industrial renaissance" in the U.S. is fueling demand for capital, Marc Rowan, CEO of Apollo Global Management said at the Global Financial Leaders' Investment Summit in Hong Kong. "There is so much demand for capital, [including through debt and equity] ... What's going on is nothing short of extraordinary," Rowan said on Tuesday during a panel discussion. "What we're watching is this incredible demand for capital happening against a backdrop of a U.S. government that is running significant deficits. Rowan and other panelists also identified energy and data centers — needed for artificial intelligence and digitization — as growth sectors requiring more capital.

The next closest U.S. rocket company, Rocket Lab , has launched to orbit 12 times this year, with others in the single digits. And SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet network is now serving almost 5 million customers, Shotwell said. Mass deportation would exacerbate this economic issue, say employers and economists. Leverant says it is still being determined how jobs lost from a mass deportation would be filled. "Looking at specific occupations, about one-quarter of farm workers, agricultural graders, and sorters are undocumented workers. "One of the natural problems with undocumented workers, we don't know how many are here because they are undocumented. A mass deportation is not possible without crippling economic impact," he said.
