He mentioned a handful of stocks that are nearing buy levels but bigger declines would need to bigger. So, with stocks selling off and cash at the ready, the question is, when do we step in? The fourth quarter was a pretty great one for Club stocks. When a stock is trading above these levels, then investors will look to these levels as support (meaning levels that might serve as a near-term floor). Stock futures were little changed Thursday evening. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added 23 points, or 0.07%. Futures tied to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures hovered near the flat line. The S&P 500 lost 0.3%, falling a third day. Renewed fears over more rate hikes from the Federal Reserve were further justified as initial jobless claims came in at 216,000 — lower than the 230,000 anticipated by economists polled by Dow Jones.

Another busy week of macroeconomic data will kick of the new quarter, following a volatile first quarter for stocks that ultimately finished in the black. The market's second quarter kicks off Monday with the ISM manufacturing report, followed on Tuesday by data on factory orders. We're looking for a Goldilocks report: not so hot to stoke more inflation fears, but not so cold to intensify worries about a recession. Wednesday's ADP employment report is also important, given the Fed's goal of slowing the job market to bring down inflation. Risk-on sentiment returned to the stock market on Thursday after the Fed acknowledged inflation is falling. Beaten down stocks like Carvana and Bed Bath & Beyond soared as interest rates fell in Thursday's session. But the market isn't so sure that it believes the Fed will continue to hike interest rates. While the CME Fed WatchTool suggests a 25 basis point rate hike in March is likely before a pause in rate hikes, Morgan Stanley believes Wednesday's rate hike was the last of this cycle. The drop in interest rates helped spark a significant rally in beaten down stocks on Thursday, with the technology sector leading the way.
